Unfortunately, what it is with the Church of England is that it is ... England. The ideology is that the islands and the race are sacred, like, already.
The Church of England's biggest problem is that Dublin has both Trinity and the Gospel of Lindisfarne. The list of problems you have with them reflects a couple of issues. One is that English people sometimes act like foreigners, and the other one is that foreigners sometimes spy on them, spoof them and pretend to be English, basically.
That "They're selling us out with Rome" is a charge as old as Edward Gibbon. Well, actually that one way predates the birth of Christ anyway.
