Origins and Pre-Adamic Creation

Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

a. (Qal) to shape, fashion, create (always with God as subject)
1. of heaven and earth
2. of individual man
3. of new conditions and circumstances
4. of transformations
b. (Niphal) to be created
1. of heaven and earth
2. of birth
3. of something new
4. of miracles
c. (Piel)

2. to cut out
2. to be fat
a. (Hiphil) to make yourselves fat

The Hebrew word, bara, in Genesis 1:1, indicates that what was created was "ex-nihilo" - out of nothing. One should not confuse bara (“he created”) with its synonym `asah (“he made”). In the nothingness, there was only God.

For the definition of these words “made” and “create,” I will turn to the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition, Copyright 1998.

"Made: (1): (a): FICTITIOUS, INVENTED (b): artificially produced (c): put together of various ingredients (2): assured of success"

"1Create: (1): to bring into existence (2): (a): to invest with a new form, office, or rank (b): to produce or bring about by a course of action or behavior (3): CAUSE, OCCATION (4): (a): to produce through imaginative skill (b): DESIGN ~ vi: to make or bring into existence something new"

Notice the key difference between (made) "put together of various ingredients" verses (create) "to bring into existence." The term "made" used in the context of "create" is inaccurate, by definition.

God’s works are perfect. Therefore, God would have created a perfect earth.

Consider Deuteronomy 32:4, where it says of God:

"He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just."

Now, God is omnipotent. That means he can do exactly what he wants without limitation. He creates all things in perfect condition. There is no need to create it any other way. No need to first created a chaotic mess and then mold it. I believe he created the earth in the condition stated in the description of the New Earth. The New Earth is not a new design. It is the original design that was laid waste.

Genesis 1:1-2 says, " Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."

Note it is made clear that the earth was not created in this condition. It BECAME this condition. Something happened between verse 1 and 2 that laid waste to the earth. If you deny this then give your reason God would feel compelled to create the earth in this state? How do you see this as being consistent with the nature of God?

And note the definition of “was”. It denotes change. And that fact of that change is reinforced by the word “now”. God created the world in perfect condition but NOW it WAS laid waste.

So, what happened? What laid it all waste?

When Lucifer ("light bringer") was created, he was the most powerful guardian cherub who guarded God's thrown. However, he became power hungry and wanted to rule heaven himself.

In Ezekiel 28:12-17, when God is giving prophesies against the King of Tyre, God uses Lucifer as an example, he says, "Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

You were a model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
ruby, topaz and emerald,
chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise and beryl.
Your settings were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.
You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.
You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.
Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace
from the mount of God,
And I expelled you, O guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor;”

In Luke 10:18, Jesus, the Son of God himself said, "I saw Satan fall like lightening from heaven."

And finally, let’s look at Rev 12.

1 A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
2 She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.
3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads.
4 His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born.
5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.
6 The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.
7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.
9 The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

This is historical information. There was war in Heaven. Satan and his angels are defeated and thrown to the earth. The woman Israel gives birth to Christ. He tries to kill Jesus at his birth, which is historical fact. He will, future tense, rule with an iron scepter. Christ is taken to Heaven in the resurrection. 70 AD occurs and the saints flee from the invading Roman army.

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short."
13 When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.
14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent's reach.
15 Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent.
16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.
17 Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring--those who obey God's commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
This is prophecy. The Trib has come. Satan is thrown down permanently. He tries to destroy Israel with the invasion of the Anti-Christ. Israel, including the 144,000 flee to a place of safety where they are protected for 1,260 days. The Anti-Christ turns against the Trib saints.

Notice in the Trib verses there is no war in Heaven. Satan is thrown down alone. No other angels are thrown down with him. There is not child.

Then the angels with Satan that rebelled were imprisoned:

Jude 1:6 states, "And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."

In 2 Peter 2:4, the apostle Peter said, "For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them into hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;"

Next, I would like to point out that in Genesis 1: 2 there is darkness. Note:

In 1 John 1:5, John says, "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all."

In Revelation 22:5, of the New Jerusalem it says, "There will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light."

God created the heavens and the earth in perfect condition in verse 1. That would not include darkness according to these verses.

Where did the darkness come from? Here, I know there is a verse that states darkness was used to conceal the sin on the earth. Now, I cannot find it. Nor a friend of mine who also knows it is there. So, if any knows its exact location, please tell me.

But, moving on. God created the darkness after the rebellion and throwing down of the fallen angels to hide their sin.

We are told:
Consider Job 38:9:
“Who shut up the sea behind doors
when it burst forth from the womb,
when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,
when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,”

Looking at the earth as described in the New Earth, all the seas are underground. Here we have those seas bursting forth when Lucifer and his angels were cast down. And it says when those seas burst forth that is when God wrapped the earth in thick darkness. Note clearly here, the earth existed before he created darkness.

Now, why would God lay waste to the earth? Because there was a company of physical beings on this earth that were part of the rebellion with the company of angels in Heaven. As Isaiah said, Satan’s efforts were wide spread. They included the earth at that time. So, this was God’s way of working his wrath against those on the earth then.

So, God created the earth perfect. Then Satan rebelled and he and his angels were thrown down. That laid waste to the earth. Then God wrapped the earth in darkness.

Now consider:

In Jeremiah 4:23, it says:

"I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty;
and at the heavens, and their light was gone.
I looked at the mountains, and they were quaking;
all the hills were swaying.
I looked, and there were no people;
every bird in the sky had flown away.
I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert;
All its towns lay in ruins before the LORD,
before his fierce anger."

Read carefully, this is not the Second Coming. The earth here is formless and empty. There are no people, no birds, no trees, grass, or any plant life. All the cities are in ruins. Everything is destroyed in his wrath.

In the Second Coming there are birds, Jerusalem still stands as well as other cities. There are a lot of people. The earth is not formless and void. This is a description of Genesis 1: 2.

When during the time from Adam to the end of time could fit this description? At no time. There has always been life on the earth.

Some may say during Noah. But, during the Flood you could not see the ground. It was under water. And Noah and the animals were there. And after the waters receded, all the living things on the ark were back on the ground. And there was plant life.

Nor could it be after the destruction of the earth. It is gone. Nothing to look at.

This had to be between Genesis 1: 1 & 2.

And that means Pre-Adamic life on the earth.

Now, do I have anything else to offer in this regard? Yes, I do.

Science, not often a friend of God, has shown with evidence that dinosaurs did not coexist with Man. Some well meaning people have tried to show different, but their evidence has always ended up being shown invalid. It looked good at first, but did not prove out.

Plus, there is absolutely no reference in the Bible to such life forms. Some try to use Job as proof. Read those verses closely. Those animals are talked about in present tense and are clearly spoken of in ways that say they lived at the time of Job. And in footnotes in some Bibles dinosaurs are never alluded to.

Further, examine some interesting verses:

Ezekiel 1:4-28 says, "I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north--an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was that of a man, but each of them had four faces and four wings. Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze. Under their wings on their four sides were they had the hands of a man. All four of them had faces and wings, and their wings touched one another. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved.

Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle. Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out upward; each had two wings, one touching the wing of another creature on either side, and two wings covering its body. Each one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went. The appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals of fire or like torches. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightening flashed on it. The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightening.

As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about as the creatures went. Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around.

Then there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads as they stood with lowered wings. Above the expanse over their heads was what looked like a throne of sapphire, and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him.

This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell face down, and I heard the voice of one speaking."

Revelation 4:6-9 says, "In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

'Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come.'

Now, these four are called “living creatures”. They are not called angels. They are not called saints. They are called living creatures.

That means they have flesh and blood.

What are they? Why are they there?

Well, we are not told exactly. So, let us look where they are. They surround the throne. What does that signify?

The 24 elders represent Man and are part of God’s Heavenly court. When Lucifer hovered over the Throne he represented the angels.

So they represent something, something living. I believe they represent the company, not race, of inhabitants on the earth in a Pre-Adamic creation.

Where are those they represent that did not rebel? We are not told. Maybe they have something to do with the nations outside of the New Jerusalem.

God said Satan’s works of rebellion were wide spread. I believe that included the earth. I believe some of that company of living creatures rebelled also and were killed when the casting down occurred. Their spirits became demons.

Demons are never called angels and angels never demons. The angels that rebelled are chained in the Abyss.

And consider this. Angels have complete spiritual bodies. The disembodied spirits once lived in the flesh. Who is the better candidate for possessing the living body, a complete spiritual being or a disembodied one? One created for a spiritual existence or one created for physical existence?

And consider:

In Isaiah 45:18, it says:

"For this is what the LORD says--
he who created the heavens,
he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth,
he founded it;
he did not create it to be empty,
but formed it to be inhabited--"

So, it was not just sitting there empty until it was laid waste between Genesis 1: 1 & 2.

I think the evidence is strong. As always, you must judge for yourself.
