Pollution

Pollution, what do you think about it? Do you ever feel kinda sick from it? Fumes from cleaning products like glass cleaners, diesel gas, some drinking water? Sometimes in my town I smell burning plastic :grr: someone is burning trash probably, we don't have many factories around here. Is there a solution?

I think many solutions should come available, too many people for a one source solution!

No doubt there is pollution. It varies from place to place.

I agree there is no one size fits all solution, though. Or that all is avoidable.

I worry about China and as more industry moves over there from here, so as to avoid EPA regulations, it tells me there are those who really don't know or care about anything but bottom line ... money.

I live in an area, Vancouver B.C., that is part of the Fraser River delta ... as is Northern Washington. There are mountains north and south that funnel the pollution eastward. As the prevailing winds carry the pollution eastward the funnel narrows and the pollution becomes more dense. It's about 100 miles eastward to where the delta ends near a town called Hope. Well, all the people that drive to the Vancouver area to work, from the east and then drive home at night, all that pollution is stacked up waiting for them when they get home, ... because of the mountains.

About 15 years ago the cases of asthma in young people started to sky-rocket and people with compromised breathing started moving to the coast.
Bottom line, some could not live, even with oxygen, eastward up the valley.
To put it all in perspective, I met and older woman who had smoked all here life that had to move to the coast to survive. Even here she required oxygen to live. I dropped in her one day and she was all happy. She had gone on a medical cruise up the coast to Alaska and she told me as soon as they left Vancouver Harbor, and got out of the pollution she didn't require her O2.

Also, if you look north up in the mountains, that's where a lot of the winter olympics, alpine events, will be held this February.

Now add to that the prevailing winds are from the west and as China produces more and more, it will eventually add to the problem here. We get it first as comes across the Pacific ocean.

1.3 billion people all wanting to Westernize, drive cars, etc. ... scary.

As Jessie might know, she's down in Portland area, there is now a dead zone, off the coast of Oregon that extends up into Washington. No Oxygen in the water and it is getting bigger every year.

Whats that verse about the water turning into wormwood ??

Wow Willy, I learn something new everyday. I think many small changes can make a big difference if everyone took it upon themselves to do it. But the big problem needs something or a handful of things the world can agree upon and use when it comes to vehicles or energy in general.

Converting cow manure to energy. Wonder if it would make your house stink?

Whatever we do needs to be affordable not to just middle class, but the lower class as well. We need to find something that's already there and put it to use, but not have to rely on government to supply it, which might end up happening anyways. I really like the idea of wind power!!! But its not cheap at all!

Then again we could keep on going and our bodies could just adapt. I also wonder about the world population.

Whatever we do needs to be affordable not to just middle class, but the lower class as well. We need to find something that's already there and put it to use, but not have to rely on government to supply it, which might end up happening anyways. I really like the idea of wind power!!! But its not cheap at all!

Then again we could keep on going and our bodies could just adapt. I also wonder about the world population.

In Japan they are using sewage treatment plants to produce methane to operate the plants. They have also found a way to recover gold out of the sewage. ... Still trying to figure where that comes from!!

There is a push where I live to separate any organic garbage, have it collected separately and all converted to methane and oil. This idea that oil takes 10 million years to form is nonsense. Look at the oil in the fat in any steak, large pork chop ;), etc.

Maybe, the average family could produce enough methane from their organic garbage, grass clippings and all included to take a bite out of their heating bill. :nod:

An airtight steel barrel, a bleeder valve and a bacterial culture to break it all down. I think there are a lot of people looking into this as we speak. :D

I'm glad people are looking into it. Maybe once things are official and for sale there will be affordable means. I think the cost is what makes a lot of people back away.
