... I have had several encounters with JWs. Four that I can recall clearly and they have never ended well.

One of the most recent, I had a co-worker who was JW. At first he was eager to discuss theology with me. Then one day we were having a discussion about Eve, the serpent and the apple and he started getting kind of funny. He was quoting his translation and I disagreed with him regarding the translation. I then took him to Blue Letter Bible and few other sites, comparing various translations of the text and he got visibly agitated. He carried around this well worn, gold leaf covered book that he kept referring to almost as much a the worn bible he kept in his brief case. When I asked what it was he quickly closed it and put it away, saying it was nothing. Just a little study aid that a friend gave him.

Several weeks later, we were departing after a fruitful day at the office and we were having a brief discussion about the afterlife. One of our co-workers had been asking both of us questions about our respective faith and that was the departing topic of conversation. I recall looking at them both, apologizing to my JW co-worker, and saying that I had an extremely difficult time accepting that God was so limited as to only allow 144,000 into heaven. That a creator with the breadth and fullness such as God has would not put his children into competition for his love in such a manner. Neither part of my response was biblicly based, they were answers from my heart (and I am not well studied enough to even prove if they are both biblical).

The following Monday he was in a different office by his request to our supervisor. From that point on was very antagonistic with every interaction we had unless our superiors were around. It saddens me that our professional relationship and potential friendship were damaged by this.

I bring this up because now I see the Adversary working hard to get into the life of one of the teens at our church. A gal she works with has provided her with a book, that I am now in posession of, that proclaims to provide biblical answers to teen's questions. I have been contemplating spending some time doing a comparitive study to see how 'truthful' they are being.

 While I am new at study myself I really hear and feel where your coming from and my heart goes out to this. I can't answer questions either but I most surely want to give my brother/sister a hug.

When others here read your post they will be able to better help you with questions.

Their translation is put out by "The Watchtower Society" based in N.Y. It is not accurate and if you ever get a chance to read one, you will notice right away that it is dry and devoid of life.

John 1:1 ... was "a" god. They don't see the Lord Jesus as God in the flesh.

They don't believe that Jesus is existing in a physical body at the present time.

They believe that the 144,000 spoken of in Revelation are all J.W.'s when scripture clearly says 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel. Future event.

They like to talk with you up until the point you strongly disagree with them or show them in scripture that they are wrong. At that point they will leave and what they like to do is scuff their feet once they have left your property as a testimony against you.

I know they have their own commentary now. I have seen one but have not read it. They refer to it often. Especially the new recruits.

They are now using the term "Born Again" but their definition of born again is different.

They believe that anyone that is a "Christian" but not a J.W is deceived by Satan.

They are a tough nut to crack. Tried for many years.

The scripture that I used to use to support the Deity of Christ (only because they had their own coaching on all the other verses) is:

Revelation 22:13-16

13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

15 For without [are] dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, [and] the bright and morning star.
