What does the vaccine look like? Is it a shot with a needle up the nose or just a squirt of liquid? Why this way instead of the regular poke in the arm? Also this vaccine is new, do we trust it?

Should I get my daughter vaccinated , she has never been vaccinated for any flu or ever had the flu, why pump it into her body now. I also have never had the flu. Viruses yes and upset stomach but never the flu.

And what is the risk compared to regular flu sickness to death, what are the %'s in our country? What are the lies I hear on both sides? Do we take precautions? Why is everyone freaking out like this is an epidemic?

I have not met one person that has or has known a person who has known a person on down the line that has had swine flu.

What have you heard or think?

I am SO tossed on getting my daughter vaccinated.

From my research the nasal injection looks like liquid only no needle. I wondered why they didn't give a regular needle injection, that looks like something certain people get like pregnant women. I guess from my understanding there has been problems with the needle injection versus the nasal pump (or whatever its called).

And there are 3 states one in particular thats having HUGE issues with this. Hospitals are flooded and sectioned off, schools have closed. And some schools are offering the consent of parents to do the vaccine at school.

Also whats it like in other countries, how are they handling it? We have a couple here at CTZ not in the U.S. So whats going on where you live?

I am still undecided.

Probably the most reliable.

Michigan.gov H1N1

I don't see it being any more virulent than the standard flu that goes around every year with the exception of a few distinct groups. The worry I think is because it is something new, we are just starting to see it in the northern hemisphere and we are not quite sure how to respond ... and there is a very slight chance it could become more virulent. ... emphasis on "very slight"

There has been dialogue with CDC as to vaccine's safety and the response was; "... it is made the same way the regular flu vaccine is made." I'm not totally happy with that reply, as I don't feel it addresses the whole question.

For Chelsea ... there is time before the vaccine is available and I would continue doing what you are doing. I will do the same. Check the CDC website for updates and any changing news that might effect decisions.

I don't think the injection is available yet so they are using a nasal spray.

I would learn what to look for as far as symptoms are concerned and what actions should be taken.

Statistics indicate most will come through it unscathed without treatment.

From what I can deduce the concern is mainly for secondary infections; viral pneumonia in particular.

None the less ... lets all pray for "Wisdom" in how to deal with it.:pray:

I am going to paying a lot of attention to this as it develops and will post anything that I find that is new information.

Agree!
I also don't want to over react or under react. Yes most definately we must keep our eyes on this. Chelsea has an appointment on Nov.6 and something keeps telling me to cancel it. My husband is on the opposite scope of things. So disagreement there.

The news is making a BIG deal and then you have people saying stuff all over the place.

Anything concerning my daughters safety is a very big deal to me as with any mother or father. If something bad happens and I made the wrong choice then you can bet the guilt and anxiety would control my life. I know I would try hard to talk my self out of that but I come from a family prone to worrying and my father raised me on guilt, he still tries that.

I feel I deal pretty well with worrying but not so well with the possibility of making a wrong choice. I end up choosing nothing and in this case choosing nothing is still a choice :(

So it also seems this came from Mexico or at least its the biggest problem there.

Yeah from the links you provided it shows most recover fine.

Where I am in British Columbia there is a more virulent form of H1N1 showing up. Of the 64 people that got the more severe strain 7 have passed. The government is saying that all had underlying health problems but will not get any more specific. Also, they are no longer reporting how many cases are being reported overall, just the cases that require hospitalization.
