Never noticed it before, but in Matthew's account of when Jesus cast out the legion of demons in the country of the Gadarenes, there were actually two men who lived in the tombs.
But in Mark's and Luke's accounts only one is mentioned.
I think his tomb buddy ran off still possesed.
Any more speculation out there?

Matthew says both were cast out, so both were there.
The difference is that with the single man focus he remained and was thankful to be free of the demons while those rejected Christ. He was told to go home.
But the other man who was cast out didn't want to be cast out or feared Christ, so, as the Bible says, the demons would return to him in greater numbers than before. He left immediately to go elsewhere or return to the tombs.
Either way the focus of the one man account was the man who was successfully cast out and went back to his old life a changed man.
I think the meaning to take away is one cast out wanted to remain with Christ, one didn't and those around didn't want anything to do with Christ and feared the men, whether they were now clean or not. A lesson in human nature and thinking when confronted with a miracle.

Changing the subject, why do think the herd of pigs went mad and ran into the water?
Seems the demons were better at controling people than pigs.
Maybe pigs are less predictable.:aah:

Pure guess here.
I think the pigs sent into the pigs could not leave as long as they were alive. So they actually made the pigs run into the water.
Only thing that makes sense to me.
This was just too controlled and unified an action to be the pigs doing it, I think.

Pigs may have gotten scared and ran away, but once
they saw water, the pigs entered the water thinking
of escape from wicked spirits entering them. And
drowned due to fleeing in haste. Remember the wicked
spirits (1000! of em) asked to enter into the pigs.
Why would they want to force the pigs to die? Wicked
spirits do not get rest outside of a host vessel.
And a thousand spirits entering into you would make
you freak out too I'm sure! :relax:
That's my 2 cent worth of reading inbetween the lines.

They would want to drown the hosts because pigs are a very ineffective host to be trapped in and work from.
Obviously, they simply were not allowed to just leave anytime they wanted.
