I think modern day christian's misunderstand 'God's Will.' In simplicity: I think God's will summarizes into: "God's will is for us to be happy doing what he sasys is good."
I know many christians will work to the bone at a dead end job all their life just thinking God must 'want them there,' and they if they ever use their talents or be happy they're probably just 'dreamers' defying God. The same people who tell you to 'grow up' and 'stop dreaming' just because they never could. I think it's sad and a huge responsibility of the church to help fix misleadings like this.
1. Is God in control? There is a few versus that suggest God keeps tabs and especially in politics keeps control. But what about the many more versus that suggest God wants US to take control? And he will only take the wheel if we ask him to? What about free will and our ability to walk away from God? I assume God could cause you to stray off a bit to help answer someone's else prayer. But I heard a joke once that made my point for me:
"A man was drowning and 3 boats came by and asked if they could help him, but he said "no, God is going to save me!." Later the man drown and in heaven has asks God "why didn't you save me!?" And God says: "Dumby, I sent you three boats."
Discuss? =D

Not quite right.
God is in control of the overall picture but allows us freewill within his parameters. Step beyond those allowed areas and you have no say it what happens.
It is a mix. We do and he guides. Never totally just we are on are own and he observes.
We need to take the first step on a path, but if we don't, God will give us a nudge to get on it.
So not an either/or issue.

The way I understand it is there is God's permissible will, which I can get in to deep trouble with but also learn a lot from. And there is God's perfect will, actually attaining my true purpose.
As for the dead end job, I don't think there is such a thing. Just ask the people who are unwillingly unemployed at this time. A job is an ends to a means, not a purpose. Sometimes people have to dig a little deeper to find how their job and purpose relate. There are lost souls everywhere and in every occupation under the sun.
BTW, there is nothing wrong with working to the bone, it builds character :D

Yeah and indeed. I just mean it sucks having a calling, insane talents, gifts you shouldn't ignore, and yet just because your family is poor and the economy is bad, you can't get into college and have a real life even if your only goal is to be the best you can be for God's name. I like to think about this psalm where the guy is praying to God something along the lines of: "Please help me lord, if you were to condemn me, who else would praise your great name." or something. I can't find it. Maybe one of you can. I relate to that now =p

Unless you live overseas you can enlist for a term and then go to school on the GI Bill.
Or, take a school in the military while getting paid and come out with a usable skill.
There are ways.

Understood.
Look into exchange type programs. They educate you and you give back in work.

None of the above problems are too big for God to overcome for you, which I am sure you already know. Sometimes our timing and God's timing are two different things. I speak this from experience. There was a time and will be a time when I am crying out "Why isn't this working out for me Lord ? Is it not YOUR WILL to do these things" and he will simply reply "I never told you to do that, otherwise it WOULD have worked out."
So rest assured, God has you exactly where he wants you to be right now and has great plans for your future, regardless of your current circumstance. With your apparent enthusiasm you are already off to a better start than most.
BTW, the guy praying to God was David, One of his many petitions to the Lord for mercy.
