Merry Christmas. I prefer that to Happy holidays, although I hear that holidays is a word for Holy Days. Try to remember that Jesus is the reason for the season. I will read the story of the birth of Christ to my children on Christmas Eve instead of the story I was read as a child each Christmas Eve by my mom which was The night before Christmas. My first realization that Christmas was about Jesus was when I was a teenager and I made a christmas cake to bring to my boyfriends home. My mom always wrote Merry XMas on her cakes, so I did, too. His dad said to me when he saw the cake " Never cross Christ out of Christmas." I stepped back and really thought about that for the first time ever. When I first became a christian, about 8 years after that, I had many Santa figurines and decorations for Christmas, that year I became convicted by the Holy Spirit of my sin of elevating Santa over Jesus. Many of my Santa figurines had gotten accidentally broken and I couldn't understand why? I realized that I was not allowing Jesus to be the bigger part of Christmas. I got rid of every Santa item I owned. I told my 5 year old son the truth about Santa and the true meaning of Christmas. 6 more children later and now 20 years have gone by and I love the Lord more and more and Christmas to us is a celebration of our Saviors birth.(For if Christ had never been born, where would we be?) Thank you Jesus for saving me, loving me and forgiving me.

I dont think it hurts to let kids have the fun and magic of Santa. It's a part of growing up. The myth will fade on it's on soon enough.

kay-gee, I feel it is ok for kids to play the santa game too, (although we never did) I just don't think it's ok to put Santa above Christ when we celebrate his birth. (which I feel is what I had done at the time)

I went out to eat last night {Christmas eve} with my friend, and
when we were leaving, the waitress wished us happy holidays.
i deliberately said in a LOUD tone, while smiling politely, "Merry Christmas!"
Oh, yes I did!

And Jesus is the reason for Santa Claus, non-stop TV ads for expensive gadgets, and crammed Wal-mart parking lots? Somehow I'm just not seeing the connection.

man is the one who made that decision. We have commercialism today because mans heart is full of greed, consumption and lust for the worldy things and pleasures. The birth of Christ is each individuals choice to celebrate or not. I choose to celebrate His birth.

I am always a little puzzled by the scorn we lay on all things Roman Catholic, yet Christmas (their biggest invention) we have bought into hook line and sinker!

I agree KG...
and it turns christmas for those in retail into we cant wait for it to be over.
for me....I worked christmas eve a 9 hour day.
I was ready to drop when I had two hours left.
I had been going on 90 mph for 2 weeks because of Christmas and the
weather here. folks just kept on coming.....
it was thoughtless of those who want to buy at the last minute,
and I guareentee you that you are'nt getting a better deal either.
stores have it worked out so you pay the same price with sales, coupons or not.
(one does'nt get a appreciation for retail until they have done it)
some folks getting testy but thankfully most where kind.
everyone from the guys who do the carts to the stocking where exhausted along with us who checked them out.
its crazy we do that to others. Christmas is not supposed to be about that!

I think people should give those imployies a break, they are only doing what they are told by their bosses.
As far as Santa I think it`s ok to let kids enjoy the myth, it`s the adults that can`t let go that bother me. I see no harm in it as long as the parents explain what Christmas is all about when the kids are old enough to understand. Wouldn`t it be the reason all kids under the age of accountability are saved because they arn`t old enough to understand the truth anyway.
I dressed up as Santa this year because my neighbor asked me to bring presents to his house for their grand kids. I came home with tears in my eyes because of the joy i seen in those kids faces.
