The pick on the chain is for pulling the wick up, it hangs by the hook on the top.

I changed the lid handle so the whole lamp looked more like a swan with its tail on fire.

Wow many different shapes and forms of them. I will research them more. Had all kinds of things pop up. Wiki is always one of my favs :)

Is yours to sit on a table or to hang? What kind of oil are you going to use? Thats neat the oils they described; fats or fish oils. It said now a days people use vegetable or olive oils. What did you use for the wick?

Sitting or hanging is fine, I use lamp oil in this one as it`s easy to get and i had some.
The wick is made from cotton cloths line. I probably won`t use the lamp much for they burn real sooty, I just wanted to make one.
