Been wanting to build one of these for a while so on my birthday I put one together. They`er pretty handy for making handles and such.
Had to round up some draw knives, the black one is a Dixie, top one in the second picture is a Greenlee and the small one has no name on it. Bought the last too at junk shops.

See the fourth and fifth pictures, the wood your working on is held in place by the top board which pivots down when you push forward on the board underneath. Then you draw the knife towards you and shave wood off till ya get what ya want.

Good idea, i`ll add that.
Going out now to try and carve a walking stick on it.

Well we made something, a walking stick. Started with a fresh cut ash tree and started at it.
Horse worked perfect, just let the work go up under your arm and ya can shave the whole length. Had the roaster keeping an eye on things and it went pretty good. I`ll let it dry now then put some kind of finish on it and dress it up.
How`s that for a pillow.

And i picked up another draw knife and a spoke shave which are hard to find, it`s a Stanley.

Is the knife an antique? Is that why they are hard to find? Love the seat!! The walking stick looks nice and comfy.
