28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Was presented with this...
2). Matthew 10:28 is not referring to God, But the people the disciples meet in any given city or town.

this is how i have replied...

1.) Jesus was talking to his twelve disciples.

2). Matthew 10:28 is not referring to God, But the people the disciples meet in any given city or town.

I understand the Bible could be hard to understand. But the first paragraph of Matthew 10 wasn't.

You are correct. The people the disciples would meet in town could not destroy the soul, so they were not to be feared.

'the One' is referring to God, and is to be feared; for God alone is the only One capable of destroying the soul.

I'm looking for the word translated 'the One'; if it shows something different, i'll let you know.

What word is used that is translated 'the One.'

The word is a general term that is translated by context. It means 'he, it, that' and so on.

One, he or him applies here. The rest requires some clarification.

Soul refers to the essence of ones life, being and personage. It does not mean destroy as in ceasing to be.

But, at the same time, separation from God is death and the word destroy has the fuller context of meaning ruining, stripping of meaning, loosing, rendering useless and such.

So, those other than God can kill ones body but only God can forever separate one from himself, which is death and destruction.
