Genesis 3:22 And the Lord God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."

My husband and his friend have a couple of questions and I don't know exactly myself. They want to know what does us refer to in the scripture and what exactly is or was the tree of life?

This is what I think but maybe I am wrong. When God first created man there was no evil so it was a given that they lived forever. But when evil or Satan came along and offered evil it was taken, so this angered God and He than took eternity away and made it so they now have to earn it or choose.

The us refers to God and His angels?

Genesis 3
21 The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." 23 So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side [e (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=gen%203;&version=31;#fen-NIV-80e)] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Context indicates it is God talking within his triunity.

That does not eliminate the possibility of an angelic audience that he also addresses but there is definitely a conversation between the three of the Godhead here.

Free choice test. They could go after knowledge or eternal life. One or the other, not both.
