View Full Version : Pagan 'blessing' sought for new building

A former employee of a Tennessee insurance company is objecting to a "ceremony" held at the construction site of a new building because it called on "the gods on the structure" for "good fortune and fertility."
The report on the ceremony came in an e-mail from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee which is constructing a new nearly $300 million office building at Chattanooga.
A spokeswoman for the company told WND the report comes apparently from an employee dispatched by the company to celebrate the "topping" ceremony of the building, with the report then transmitted to the insurance company's e-mail list.
"Upon arriving at the construction site we were greeted by the workers preparing to lift this tree with the crane. Why were they lifting the tree to the top of building one? Well according to the Scandinavian tradition from long ago, after the final foundation is complete you are to raise a tree to the top of a building to bless it. It was to 'bless' the house with fertility. But people still use the tradition to bless the structure with good fortune. It is a request for a blessing from the gods on the structure to provide good fortune and fertility," the company's e-mail said.

this is all over the place.
the hawaiians are doing their blessings over new store that come in.
many are simply rejecting God and his word and heading right back into paganism.
they I dont think have a clue whats ahead for them and where it will lead

Harmless. Why is that any worse that lugging a Christmas tree into the house each year?

Well I think its the whole belief of the blessing with a tree brings some sort of good luck. Superstitious and idle.
I knew a woman who had some sort of Indian religion and traveled every year to some where in that area to give something to this one bull and expect some sort of blessing in return with it. She was on dialysis and couldn't travel but did any way to see this certain bull to do the ritual.
With Christmas trees, they are for just decoration not a blessing. Something fun to do with the kids or a family tradition. Just a thing, nothing to do with ones beliefs or religion.

Right on, a.baker. Those people believe in those spirits so that tree is a religious ceremony.
Not harmless.

`
Who says a Christmas tree is harmless??
It's actually in how people perceive its usage.
The only reason I would ""ALLOW"" a tree in my
house is if --AND ONLY IF-- it is for the kids to
see as a sort of decoration, like a silly ghost hang-up
in October and/or a chocolate bunny in April.
When a company places a tree atop their huge
building with a crowd watching, said company is
sending an anti-Christian message! Not because of
the tree itself, but because of what it is being
used for! And by doing so in public, they are
showing pro-superstition. Influencing others.
Not good!
For what it's worth, I don't do so-called Christmas
trees. However, if my wife/girlfriend wants one for
her house out of tradition, I will stand down.
Begrudgingly! :tsk: But I will.

Yup depends on how one perceives the Christmas tree. Can't argue there. Yup most that celebrate Christmas do not know Christ and therefore turns it into an Antichrist tradition.
The only tree that has anything to do with God is the one He speaks of where the seed is sown and how it grows and produces fruit. Nice parables from Gods wisdom. Many places in the gospel Jesus speaks of this. I really like the one in Romans too.

It would stop me.
Barring circumstances beyond my control, I would
NOT do business there.
But hey, to each his own.

When at all possible I'd rather give my business to a brother than a pagan.

Hmmm. They would not come in a Christian business but you would give them your trade.
And we wonder why they are winning in the business world.

I agree with a.baker
question:
what are we going to do when most everything has gone pagan?
I was reading the other night where paul was talking about eating ect.
and not wanting us in communion with devils.
does this apply? what do we do?

There are non-Christian businesses that do not publicize a different religion and those that do. A Christian in a pagan promoting business is a problem to me.

When they believe in that inanimate object it is not Yeesh!
You really don't get it? It isn't about the symbol but the people.

Wow! Financially supporting a business that actively is anti-God. Yea, stick to those guns.

one thing that really bothered me was where I worked,
having to sell that eckart tolle books, and lots of kids stuff that obviously was occulitic. (actually I was just cashiering)
I felt I should'nt be doing that.
whats the deal on this senerio?

I don't know Jessie but someone here does. Personally a big reason why I left my job was because of all I saw going on. I couldn't take it any more! I was done watching these people and these people not understanding anything they saw me do different. The world does not know Jesus and therefore they do not know us. We are called to be fools for Jesus and in fact that is a very wise thing and a strength of faith. I just read scripture last night on this topic in the NT. I bounce all over the place in the bible. Let me check later to see if I can find it for you . ( just keep searching and God will deliver a good to you your way (hugs) ). :)

More cliche answers, KG?
A Christian going to such before the world is not a good perception or image.
"Oh, gee! No harm to anyone pushing that. No disrespect to God by me doing that!"

Kaygee really, we are "afraid" of the world? I think the bible tells us plenty who we need to be afraid of and its not the world.

Another thing that gets me are those dang-blasted
SO-CALLED dream catchers!!
:gah:
Get a clue, fellow Brothers and Sisters in the Lord!!!
Those things should NOT be in the home of a
child of the King! They are superstitious folly,
and the people who have them hanging around
actually believe they work! Or they at least
hope they do. You may as well believe that
dancing around with paint on your face will
cause it to rain. And I mean no offense to
any indians who do that. They believe it
because they do not know Jesus. They
have an excuse. WE DON'T! Not a
good excuse, anyway.
Goodness Gracious!

Another case in point John Beckett. Dream Catchers make lovely decorations for review mirror.

`
Next time you see someone with a ""DREAM CATCHER""
hanging from their vehicle's rearview mirror, ask
them this: Why do you have a dream catcher
on your mirror? In case you fall asleep
at the wheel?
And if they reply, "sometimes I pull over at a
rest area to sleep", or "I sometimes fall
asleep while waiting for my spouse
at a doctor's appointment", then
that proves my point. They have
the dream catcher there 'cause
they believe its power.
It is of the supernatural, and that alone
is against our Lord. Read the Bible.

Then dont participate in Halloween then either, or for that mater dont do anything. Better safe than sorry!
all the best...
a.baker

Just because someone doesn't participate in Halloween does not mean there is nothing left. There is plenty left to enjoy! Now thats being positive :) ! Now you can't argue that if something displeases our Lord, its better to not partake in it, than to anger Him. God will tell us to not do something and we will find a laundry list of things that fit under that list. And so for our love of our God and the fear we have of our God, we just better leave certain things alone.
Kaygee back to the fear thing you blamed us for being fearful of the world (I don't know this thread or a different one). I would state that this shows we fear God not the world or Halloween Kaygee. I hope that better helps you see where our understanding is of the Lord. I am reading proverbs and right and in the beginning it talks much about God giving us understanding if we truly want to know Him and live for Him. It talks much about wisdom.
Now this is something I feel God guided me to read at the moment because it helps with so much. All scripture does! But God speaks to us through His Word, He most certainly does.
Now this isn't meant to attack you Kaygee by any means and I am sorry if you feel this way; but out of the sake for the family it is important to me and others that you understand where we are coming from. We need to build each other up, but we must do it accordingly to scripture not just our hearts alone.
