Dear friends, I pray what I am feeling is righteous indignation and not pure, unadulterated anger.
I read the news on the Internet, watch it on TV, and read newspapers. To begin with that is probably my greatest failing. It's also the root of my distress.
In an article running in today's Yahoo! News entitled "Israel strikes kill 54 in Gaza". If you would like to read the article in full, it is that the following address:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080301/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_palestinians (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080301/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_palestinians)
The title of this article leads you quickly to assume that horrible old Israel has once again attacked the poor innocent Palestinian people in an effort to wipe them from the face of the earth. Reading the article itself does little to change that assumption. That is, until you read some of the smaller paragraphs and ‘unspoken innuendo’ between some of the lines.
Palestinian militants are standing inside Gaza on the border and firing rockets into Israel in almost daily attacks. When Israel retaliates against these attacks the Israelis are a band called the aggressors, killers of children, savages, and any number of other derogatory names.
Below are two paragraphs quoted directly from the article:
The violence took a heavy toll on Gaza civilians. Moderate Palestinian leaders called the killings a "genocide" and threatened to call off peace talks.
"The response to these rockets can't be that harsh and heinous," said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. "It is nowadays described as a holocaust."
Understandably the Israeli retaliation took a heavy toll on the Palestinian people. It's difficult to fight your attackers when they fade away among innocent civilians. And, from the response from these ' innocent civilians' their continued support of the Hamas militants makes their claim to innocence very tenuous.
The second paragraph would make me laugh if the overall situation were not so sad. How dare the Palestinian president claim the Israeli response to Hamas firing rockets at them was ‘harsh and heinous’? This is the same as saying we can hit you, but it's no fair if you hit us back. He even goes so far as to call the Israeli retaliation a ‘holocaust’.
I know the Bible spells out clearly that in the last days all nations will come against Israel. We see the Bible prophecies being fulfilled every day. I know this has to happen and I know the world will only get worse and worse until the Rapture takes place and the Antichrist is unleashed. These things must happen in order for God's plan to be fulfilled through the Tribulation and the glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Even though I know these things, to hear the lies so blatantly spewed out toward God's chosen people fire feelings in me that are really hard to direct.
God smote the enemies of the Israelites when they entered the land of Canaan. He gave them victory over all their enemies and gave them the land that was promised to them through the covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He promised to let them stay in this land as long as they obeyed His commandments. The Bible tells us that they have fallen away from God and have been driven from the land in the past. They have always returned to God and He has restored them to their land. In 1948, 2000 years after Jerusalem was destroyed and the Jews were dispersed throughout the known world, they have again been restored to their land as God promised. According to the words of the Bible after this restoration they will never be driven from it again.
The article I quoted is of course only one of hundreds that are flooding the news channels and video waves today. I made no mention of Iran and its maniacal decree that Israel will be wiped off the face of the earth. Nothing was said about Hezbollah and their repeated attempts to destroy Israel from the north. Nothing was said about the lack of support from other major countries who were part of the United Nations which made the ‘material’ decision to allow the Jews to have their nation back.
My deepest thanks to each and every one of you and putting up with my rant. I look forward to your replies and comments.
Should I take the words of my Lord Christ Jesus where I am instructed to love my enemies and to turn the other cheek when I am struck? Or, do I consecrate all of my abilities and resources toward fighting the enemies of my God? And I am referring to not only the menace facing the children of Israel, but the enemies of God's Word. False politicians, false prophets, homosexuals, false doctrines, etc..
I will shut up now and go take a cold shower while I wait for your deeply coveted replies.
God bless you and yours.
