Mauricio R. Arellano and three friends were eager to get to Charles Town, W.Va. last December. They planned to spend a few hours gambling together at the casino.

Since some of the men had been drinking before they left their houses in Anne Arundel County, Arellano, who was sober, agreed to drive. That decision ended up landing him in jail.

As the men headed west on U.S. 340 at about 11:30 p.m., they were stopped by a deputy with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Why?

The car Arellano was driving had too many air fresheners hanging from the rear view mirror, according to prosecutors.

John Beckett: Can you believe that??

:nope: :nope: :nope: :nope: :nope: :nope: :nope: :nope:

Turns out the men are hispanic, and they were being
racially profiled!!

To me, that's just a bit much.

Yes, it's LOL-Funny when you first read that
they were pulled over for having too many
AIR FRESHENERS in the car. But the whole idea
is preposterous, imv.

:grr:

Anyway, thats my vent for today.

That is wrong! My uncle is a cop and said that you can get pulled over for anything hanging in your window because it's considered an obstruction. But you know, even though that may be the case, you never actually hear of someone getting pulled over for that. Just about everyone has something hanging in their car... I do. And yes so many cops do stereotype. You wouldn't believe the harassment we got before because of our poor car. We get nothing now with our newer car. Like certain people really need any more problems. What about the fancy cars? I bet you some of those are drug dealers... just thinking. It's not right to stereotype!

I see your point about the condition of the
car, too. Like that new commercial where
some bank robbers run out of the bank and
into their new car. The police surround the
new car, but they get out of their cruisers
and run into the bank, unaware that the
robbers were sitting in the new car! Then,
while the cops are in the bank, the robbers
flee the scene.

And I had to laugh while watching it because
it's true. You don't really notice anyone in a
nice-looking car, and the police don't usually
bother anyone driving one.
