Hi everybody. Kay-gee here. Lightening Fried the Black thing-a-ma-jigger that connects me to the world. Got people looking into it, but things as slow as molasses around here. Don't Know when things will be normal again. I'm borrowing computer time, so I don't want to be long. At the risk of sounding sappy, I miss y'all a ton! I hope every body is OK. All the best....

Yeah. the black one.
The white one gives me direct phone to Canada.
Guess I gotta be mindful of T-storms (many lately). Also The power supply here is a little funky with surges and what not.
Gotta remember to unplug everything each time.
I felt like I was trapped in a black hole or something. Please tell me. Is that a sign of addiction?
Kinda concerned!..........all the best...

Hello CTZ land. kay-gee here. I am currently at my moms in Northern Ontario, Canada. There is a dinosaur computer here, (phone dial-up) But I should be able to keep contact with you all. It's been quite a journey thus far. Never before have I slept on the floor of an airport. Never had luggage concerns before etc... Thats what I get for trusting a non Canadian airline! I just finished a driving trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls with family. Finally getting some rest. This is like a whole different planet from The Bahamas. Pizza, fast foods, big box stores...WOW! I even treated myself to a movie! I attended worship on Sunday in a congregation that had more than 8 people in it. Great! I'm loving it but I know soon that I will be missing my wife and my cats and will have to return to the islands. Right now, I'm drinking in the peaceful serenity of the lake in front of my moms. Like a picture from a story book. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been checking the recent posts to see where every body's at.

Never been in a plane before. Not afraid just severely sheltered as young and no money as an adult. I am not sure how the airport works but I have heard nothing but horror stories. It would be awesome to be in a plane on 4th of July. Saw many when we were watching a huge firework show.

Some advice. If you want to come and visit in The Bahamas, take a DIRECT flight to Nassau. More available during winter months (and expensive) I hope that someday you can travel. It is exciting and broadens your experience. Airplanes thrill me. No matter how many times I've flown, I'm impressed by the power of jets and the awe of being in the sky. My brother has a small plane here at the lake and even that is very cool.

Talked to my wife last night on the phone last night and was informed that my approval for spousal resident arrived. WOOOOO HOOOOOO! What remains is The paying of a fee and issuing of permit! The resident permit allows me to reside and pursue gainful employment. I may have to cut my Canadian venture short and get back to the Bahamas. It's been almost a one year holiday for me, but I beleive it's time to be doing something constructive again. May not be able to get a restaurant up and running before tourist season starts. Maybe next year.

Hello Core Issue. Perhaps you can help me with this. I'm taking a pack of kids (about 6) out to a remote island for a two day camp out. Got any tips? How does one maintain a sense of discipline and order and yet let the kids have a blast? One of my biggest joys is to see kids have fun and make memories!

How does one maintain a sense of discipline and order and yet let the kids have a blast? One of my biggest joys is to see kids have fun and make memories!

Well, in scouting we had established procedures. Even worked sometimes! :p
1. Find camp site.
2. Establish camp fire locations.
3. Find appropriate tent locations within reasonable range of camp center.
4. Gather firewood.
5. If away from vehicles, too far, put food in safe places, from animals, and ensure there will be no contamination or spoilage.
6. Protect water supplies.
7. Make sure you have emergency medical supplies, as in aspirin, bandages, bug bite ointments and such.
8. Firm meal times and preparation schedules.
9. Adequate lighting with fuel/energy sources.
10. PREPLANNED AND KNOWN ACTIVITY GOALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11. ASSIGN CAMP DUTIES FAIRLY AND EVENLY!!!!!!!!!
12. Sufficient clothing, with backups and maybe weather needs, like rain gear.
13. Do NOT over or under pack unless you can reach your vehicles!! Then overpack a bit.
For a 2 dayer, that should be the basics.
Discipline mainly is an age issue.
If under 14, should not be a biggie. But once puberty hits, :sob:.
Kids, as in all boys, all girls or a mix.
Pity you if a mix of teens. Keep one WHALE of a close on them if mixed.
And a BIG one. Buddy system. Always two together, minimum.
No exploring, out of site, without adults knowing it.
If you set these things up and they are understood as safety issues, you will do fine. I they think it is because you don't trust them, you will have problems.
And watch lighters and such. Good tools, but also dangerous on camp outs.
No pocket knives unless approved and you KNOW they are safe with them.
Fires and cuts are not joyful accidents when out in the boonies. Believe me.

Make sure they know your in charge and they aren't! See what their interests are when it comes to activities which also depends on age.

Hi guys. I'm leaving on a road trip early tomorrow. I will be gone approx, a week so I will be a little out of communication. CTZ is so much a part of my daily routine, it seems awkward now to be out. Driving south to Toronto in the Smart Car to tie some loose ends and to visit old friends (some new friends too). I will try to slip on line, whenever I can borrow a little computer time from folks! I hope that every one of you has a good week. I ask you to think of me in your prayers for my journey. Thank-you. Hi guys. I'm in Toronto right now. They have a PC in the lobby for guest use, so I couldn't resist the urge to get on and say hi. Don't have time to scan all the topics and comment. Travel has been good so far nice weather. Had a scare the other day. Went to dis-embark the ferry, and thought I had lost my car key. (i only have one) Thanks be to God, a deck hand found it. It was a HUGE ship. I'm getting lots accomplished. Taking the Smart car for service tomorrow at the Mercedes dealer. Gonna take about 5 days to get a spare key made. Gonna head downtown this morning and take in the sights and sounds of the city. Never thought I could miss Toronto but I kinda do. The traffic is brutal though. Gonna see some old friends tonight and tomorrow night. Hope to even get in a jam session. If all goes well, I will head out Friday for Ottawa (The capital of Canada, for the benefit of you Americans). My mom-in-law has a new home there, where she lives for the summer month's. After that, it's back northward to my Moms, and planning will begin for return to the Bahamas. Starting to miss my wife and my cats. Hope every one is well. Jessie, I hope things are looking up for you. a.baker, your enthusiasm is so contagious! continue...Core Issue, What can I say? I miss the heat of the battle...soon my friend...soon! Hi guys. I'm up at my mom-laws near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She has a computer so here I am. Every is good so far. Going to meet for service with the Ottawa congregation tomorrow. Nice weather here considering it's August. Quite hot in the day time. Did a lot of cruising through the big box stores today. After having spent some time in a developing country, I have a new appreciation for how spoiled we are here in North America. The sheer amount of available merchandise over-whelms me. I believe we are just so materialistic. I was watching the shoppers and the stuff they were buying. I was asking myself the question: How much would you have to own before you could feel any semblance of satisfaction? Maybe a good title for a thread. All this luxury, and yet a sense of emptiness. Whuddup with that?
Probably tomorrow, I should set my sights for home. My moms is probably about 8 hours from here. I think I need to stop about half way, to get the process started for a spare Smart key. Our home town of Sault Ste. Marie has no Smart dealer.
I hope you are all doing well. I'll try to keep in touch as computers become available for me to us

People with materialistic stuff is so bad isn't it? It drives me nuts. That would be a good thread to start! Personally as long as I have my basic needs covered than I am a happy camper. I have been to Sault Ste. Marie once but I was pretty little so I don't remember it much. Yes you better get a spare key before you travel too much further if you can. I bet your probably constantly checking your pocket. I know the feeling. It's nice to here from you and I am so glad that everything is going well. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I bet your wife misses you like crazy and vise versa! We look forward to future threads that will start up in the future! :tiphat:

Back again! I'm at my moms again. Enough travel for a while. I need to be shopping for an airline ticket for my return to the Bahamas. I do miss my wife indeed. I enjoy my cats. Being fat Canadian cats, they have fur on them like black bears. I think the Bahama sun just knocks them out. Really comical. More importantly though, it's time for me to knuckle down and get busy at something to generate income. I've been a house husband long enough. The final stages of obtaining my resident permit are in play. The beginning of September will mark one year since selling the delivery business and a one year holiday. It's been good. No complaints. This summer has been the best ever of my entire life. Non stop activity. Also many firsts. I'm taking the time to really appreciate the people in my life, who I had not much time for when I was living in Toronto. The Smart key is kind of a drag. Gotta drive 3 hours to get it when they call me. I do believe though, that it is prudent to have a second key. I can't for the life of me, think what happened to the original spare. Dosen't that drive you crazy when something like that happens? The episode on the ferry boat the other day really brought the point home. Hope you are all well and enjoying your summer. Isn't life great?

08-27-2007, 09:30 AM
Hi a.baker! Yes, I am heading to The Bahamas on Sept 9. Only a couple of weeks away. It's been a wonderful time up here, but I do believe it is time to get back a resume my husband role. It's probably been one of the best summers of my life. I've never really had a vacation before, where time meant nothing. Sometimes I forget what day it is. I asked my mom and brothers if they would mind if I built a small cottage on the property. I would like to have my wife come up and spend some time together in the summers. She is such a work-a-holic. It kinda concerns me. Yes, I am still plunking away on the the brontosaurus computer with turtle speed connection. It's a dial-up system. Downloading is frustratingly slow, esp. if containing video stuff. But I don't mind. At least I'm still in touch. I am hoping they will call me today about my Smart key, so I can drive to Sudbury (3 hours) to get it. Hope you are having a nice day. Thank-you for visiting me.

Yup just wondering how you were. Just curious what kind of work does your wife do? Is she able to take less hours if wanted for vacation? Yes a vacation sounds very important for her even if she refuses once she goes on one she won't want to go back to work (for awhile any way). You should keep persisting her to take one and enjoy a little relaxing time. It would do wonders for her in many ways. Even if she doesn't go any where just having time off is necessary if she can.
kay-gee
08-28-2007, 09:16 AM
She works at a place that rents boats.Typically summer is the off season in the Bahamas but this year it seemed to remain fairly busy throughout. She has this amazing work ethic and I think she would be afraid the place would fall to pieces if she took time off. She is so extremely loyal, that all her bosses have loved her and hated to lose her. My fear, is at what point do people start using you. I told her she was going to make others look bad. (Bahamians are not highly motivated work-wise). The Canadian style work ethic would blow most people away there and that is why I am confident my business there will succeed. Just capitalize on the lac-a-daisy-ness of the the locals. My hope is that she will join me in running the place. I will make it policy to shut down for a month in summer and come to Canada to relax and visit family and such. I didn't marry so that I could do things by myself. It's lonely and boring. Anyways, that's it. I hope every one is having a good day!

That would be wonderful if you could get a business started and after it gets going have her join you. You wouldn't have to split the funds with anyone and with both of your work ethics you guys would blow the competition away. Hmmm an idea... when you start thinking your imagination can just run away with itself. It would be very exciting. Go for it! When my daughter starts going to school full time in 1 to 2 yrs. I am excited to get something started myself. I kinda wait to think on that for later other wise I get antsy and start to get impatient because I am ready to go full speed at something. So soon enough my time will come and I am excited I just need to be patient! My daughter just told me she wanted to be a doctor and a juggler... ha ha ha. Do those mix? I love the way little kids think. Does your family come visit you in the winter? They should even though thats the busy season it is the best to go to the Bahamas! They would even have a place to stay at for free!

You always stick it out no matter how tense something may get and in the end there may not be an agreement but there is peace with brothers and sisters. Even though it's hard to communicate on the internet, many times you try very hard to understand what people are trying to say. You try to put your posts in a way for others to understand. You always show open arms and an open house and you show your ready to share your home as well as what you have found in the bible; the best treasure of all. You are always trying to stay on the positive note which helps in times of struggle. It gives hope in a way. Your very good at replying to all who reply to you. Thanks guys. Yes I got my spare key made. Finally! Huge hassle. Yeeesh! I dont want to do that again. Actually it was an exceptionally hot summer in Canada this year. It even hit 90F last week. All the grass is brown and Lake Huron was super low. Mom is actually gaining beach front. LOL. In one sense I was sad to leave. It was a stellar summer. I think I really bonded with my nieces and nephews. All the parades and campouts and what not. Many great memories. But I am also looking forward to seeing my wife and cats and the place. Tomorrow I hope to pick up my official permit at the Immigration building here in Nassau. After that I'm gonna shop till I drop. Tomorrow night I'm gonna catch a cargo ship heading out to our island. It's approx 10 hours. The last time it was 10 hours of a living nightmare because the sea was rough. I guess I don't fully have my sea legs yet! Any way, I hope you're all doing good. I hope you got out to worship today.

I'm back at our home now. Trying to restore some normalcy to my life. The trip went extremely well. I took 2 Gravol and rode out the ship ride without incident. Things are good here. The grass isn't too long. Too dry I guess. Sand-flies but not many mosquitoes. I am a little disappointed with my banana trees. I would have thought that they would have grown more. Lots of pineapples. My wife replanted about 12 suckers. My wife took on another job part time teaching a home school. She intends to be as busy as ever. I picked up my permit Monday in Nassau. Now am free to get busy. First I want to whip the house into shape a bit. I'm kinda of a neat freak. I'm thinking of starting up the "Kay-Gee Cafe". Tell me what you think. Great coffee, Light lunches, do-nuts etc... and the morning paper.
What do you think? I'm meeting with some folks on Friday to see what can be done. The legalities etc... It's sweltering here. Mid 90's already. Think I'll take a break and head to the beach for a dip.

I like the cafe idea! Thats would be good business with the regulars and the tourists! Let us know how it goes on Friday. Oh those sand flies...I bet they bite don't they? The ones we have hear are called horse flies and they follow you around and bite. They call them horse flies because they really attack farm animals eyes, mainly horses. So if you ever see a horse with a weird mask on thats why. They make spray for horses too. But they love to attack people as well and they like to live in areas where mosquitoes live. I as well am a neat/clean freak. I have had to learn though about letting some stuff slide, my daughter taught me that... kids.
kay-gee
09-13-2007, 01:20 PM
The trouble with the sand-flies is that you can't really see them. They are smaller than a speck of black pepper. when your ankles begin to itch like sandpaper, you know they are around. They aren't bad when theres a breeze. They don't do breeze well. So small. They feed mostly early morning and evening before sun down. Avon skin so soft keeps them away a bit. Screens don't stop them and that is what makes them exceptionally pesky. We have horse flies and deer flies in Canada.

Hey everyone. How are you today? Not bad here. Things are returning to normal. We are left cleaning up from "Noel". The roads are passable now with only the odd puddle to slow down for. We did well considering. One death resulted on our island. A fellow got out of his swamped car and drowned in a puddle. The mechanics are having a hey-day with all the water damaged cars and engines. We suffered to both the car and the truck. AMs car is making a serious whine sound. Water in the sealed berrings of a pulley. No doubt it is gonna cost some money soon. The truck has starter issues. We are gonna under it today and see if we can clean up the connections etc...Small worries really. Some folks have cars that are wiped right out. Had their computers submerged etc... Bithday went well. I was rather full of taquila and who should be sitting at our table but a JW. Oh brother! Not good. Politics and religion may not mix, but alcohol and religion is lethal. I am off alcohol now for a long long time. AM had to drive me home and with the super winding road and such, it wasn't pretty LOL. I do plan to have a get together thing here on some saturday. Kinda combination birthday yard party...greet the neighbors sort of thing. welding up a steel BBQ tank, and building uprights for he volleyball net and badmiton. A little platform for music too. Got a wonderful neibour back in the bush behind us here. He's a cook, a musician, a welder, and a business man too. We connect on so many levels. He has been helping me to get to know what is what around here. He says our place has great potential. I hear that being right on the Queens highway, automatically allows us for commercial use. Bingo. That may solve a problem for us right there. Church has been rough. have not been out for 3 weeks which is a record for me. The first was a bad cold or flu, the next 2 were the conditions of the roads. I'm in a spiritual tail spin now. I still got embers but it will take some blowing to get it back to a fire. I give up talking about spiritual things on this site. Unless of course to offer encouragement to someone. Any way feel free to come on this thread and talk about anything you want. I am interested to know what is going on in your lives.

It's good o know how you are doing Kaygee and everyone else! :D Lets see it is Friday and my husband has not found a job yet. He has 3 days next week (silly old holidays) to find one or we are in very serious trouble. Husband is don't doing good with that in mind (hmm lots of fights trying to come on) . I am trying to keep positive to help things keep moving. I received a couple of gift cards for something and I spent them on groceries today. So that was a lifesaver! I have been really busy lately with many things. Trying to train my puppy. She is coming along pretty well. There has been a class at church that starts after Sunday worship and that has been nice. I am the youngest in the class and so it is different. Well I am off for the day to do lots of other stuff.

Hi every one at CTZ. On Wednesday morning I am flying up to Nassau. I may be gone about a week, so my contact with you may be spotty. I have to have the starter rebuilt for the little truck. There is a place in Nassau that specializes in starters and alternators. How long it takes them will determine the length of my stay. Also while there, I will be purchasing my long awaited motorcycle. I would love to get two, but I haven't quite convinced AM as to how cool biking is. I am also shopping for some sound equipment to use in my solo show. I will likely end up ordering it from Miami. There is a number of misc. shopping to do and some very important errands to run. I think I had better tidy up mils apartment there as she will be showing up soon from Canada.
But it will not be all work and no play. I look forward to getting over to Paradise island and hanging out at Starbucks...LoL. It will also be cool to meet for worship at a real congregation this Sunday!..LOL More than any thing I would love to get a coffee shop going but there are also other things than can be done that may be less red tape and more practical for us. I feel as though things are beginning to move ahead for me. A big turn point for me is getting to know my neibour over here. He owns a night club, and is giving me my first break and also introduced me to some musicians. We even talk about partnering on a little metal fabricating bizz. He has some know-how and a welder and I have a large work-shop with tools. We have discussed building everything from Bahamian style musical instruments to BBQ grills to boat trailers. So you see, I am beginning to come out of that cloud of self doubt I was in for a long time. I am seeing oppurtunities and being encouraged. The motorbike should increase my mobility so I can get out to more things like Drug Council and Toastmasters. I will return from Nassau on the cargo ship so please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I hope every one is fine and well and that you will have a very Merry Christmas. a.baker, I am looking for your package at Post office. I gotta tell you, snail mail gets whole new meaning in Bahamas LOL. The mail boat arrives here each Tue and Thur. I will let you know just as soon. So this is Kay saying Hi and bye for a while and as always ........

That is great things are looking up for you :yowza:. And that is great with the gigs you are getting lined up. I hope you as well have a wonderful Christmas!! Hey while you are on your trip keep your car keys close... LOL! Yup I bet your looking forward to a Starbucks hang out. With no coffee shops in your area. Yeah getting to know my neighbors is something I should do too.

Hi everyone. I am walking down the street in Nassau, today and I see a public Library that offers internet access for a buck. I just couldn't resist the temptation so here I am. Been to a few bike stores and music shops. Different! That is all I can say. I gotta calculate whether it would be better to order from Miami and pay the big tariffs. The marine place that has the bike I want can probably license it and road ready it in a day so maybe I'll be riding it strait onto the ship...Ooooo scary.
The traffic in this town terrifies me not to mention the fact they drive on the left side. Mils new place is way out the far end of New Providence, and that is proving to be a bit of a hassle. Throwing myself at the mercy of a friend or relative to get back and forth. Dose any one realize what a treat it is to eat at a Burger King??? LOL. I may even take in a movie. Yes , in a theatre! Things are picking up here as the tourist season is upon us. There is a huge passenger ship in the harbour not far away. It is a thrill to just go and see all the people. Anyways I got other internet stuff to do but I wanted to say hello. Jessie I hope your visit went well with your friend from Japan. a.baker we are keeping our eyes peeled for the CD's. Mail is dreadfully un reliable especially to the outer islands. roman8 I pray all is well in snow country LOL! ITW have a venison burger for me. Remember mustard bottom, 57 on top with a dash of Tabasco! Core, well what can I say? Wish you were here. Tonights the night I would have bought that big Bahamian steak dinner. To each and every one of you, have geat afternoon and weekend and of course a very Merry Christmas.

Hi. We've been having internet issues on the island so the service has been a little spotty, and I haven't been on. Yes listened to CD's. You are correct. Enjoyed the 2nd one a bit more. AM comes from more of a country and folk perspective but I am more versatile in the things I listen to. I appreciate these because I am trying to re-build some sort of music collection and have nothing of any sort of contemporary rock. Many of these songs are very nice. There were a couple that I had heard before but most I had not. Curious, is hubbys former band named in this line-up?
I will be ordering my music equip from Miami. Nassau stuff is extremely expensive (IMO) and not exactly what I want. We got the starter installed back on Sunday morning and all is well again. My mom-in-law is in Nassau now but should be down here sometime soon. My brother and his family will be coming on New Years. They want to stop in Nassau to see Junkanoo! Once in a while it is nice to go to a full size congregation. Oppurtunity to meet many Christians. AM is well. The cats are the same as always (usually sleeping). Can't believe it is Christmas time. Just can't seem to catch the spirit of it when I am here. It has been quite cool here last couple days. But there is NO snow. I'm glad for that. Hope all is well. Hope the move goes smoothly. Merry Christmas!!!!

Hey everyone. I hope and trust you all had a wonderful holiday season. Being that I have family down here, the festivities have not ended yet. We held a huge dinner party on Jan 3. I was embarrassingly reminded half way through dinner, by AM that it was also our anniversary! LOL. It was a mixed grill with steaks marinaded in red wine, jerk chicken and pork chops. Many wonderful sides and much wine. The motorcycle is running nicely. Gave it it's first oil change. My brother says I made an excellent choice. the weather has been a little weird but we are dealing with it. My brother and family are hoping to get out in the boat today if the sea has calmed. There is a pig roast today out on one of the nearby islands, and they would like to check it out I think. As for me, I'm going to church service. It is easy with all the distractions of life to be forgetful, of the faith that has "brought us safe thus far". In 2008 I have to buckle down and cling fast to my moorings, which is Christ the rock. So much to do for HIM, and now is the time. I hope and pray soon for some gainful employment. I fear that my brain will go to sleep! LOL anyway, I wanted to just say hi and give an update of life here in the isles.

Speaking of sleep I was wondering; how can I feel so lazy even though I am so busy and trying to finds other ways to be productive? It doesn't make sense... I suppose I can freshen up on my physical self but it seems I am missing something that I should be doing; hmm what is it? What ever it is thats missing it serves a very important purpose. I feel I have so much to give and it is falling asleep because I am not using it, if that makes sense.
Well it is good Kaygee to hear you and your family is doing well! I also went to church this morning and they did something different. We had communion today but they also had us dip our hands into this running water as a symbol of Jesus washing away our sins. Different.
As I was driving to church this morning I was listening to Christian radio station and there was a live church service on (there always is at that time) and the congregation was singing hymns. As I was listening to the words and humming along I just wanted to cry with joy for everything He has done for me and for the rest of us; for all. I felt very filled.
How was church for you today? Did you give a sermon?

LOL Any way she is planning to put a 900 million develpment in here and she held a town meeting for the residents. Her plans were quite ambitious...containing a medical centre, spa, condo's golf course, and marina. It looks like the golden goose may have finally come to roost down at this end of the island. Now is the time for us to do our project, as we live right on the highway. It is a 5 kto 10 year plan and there will be construction workers etc... who will need food and things. Of course this is all subject to government approval!

She`d a made a difference alright a bad one, right along with Obama who says there will be change. What he isn`t saying is what kind of change.
It makes it so clear to me at this time watching this how easy it will be for the AC to deceive, heck he will be a smooth talker like Obama and Clinton but he will also perform signs and wonders. They will flock to him in amazement shouting praises. :(

Hi everyone. My bride is leaving for Canada tomorrow for a couple of weeks. Please pray for her safe passage. Now I will find out what it is like to be a hermit. It will be her first time back home since she came here in summer of 2006.
Well, my 2 year sabbatical is drawing to a close. I will have to find a job soon. Any suggestions? I've never looked for a job before. I've almost spent all my proceeds from the sale of my business in Canada. But more importantly, It is driving me crazy. I am getting way too sedate, and the house husband thing had grown old.
Bahamas is a small country but still has a huge bureaucracy. Mil has applied for the land for the gas station, shop and restaurant, but I expect it is still a ways off. Meantime I gotta do something.
On the side, I'm developing a music business, but it will never be able to provide a full time income. Probably a good sideline income.
My wife has been offered a job managing the large grocrey store in town. She is in a quandry as to what to do. She loves her work at the boat place. She is not good at those kind of decisions.
at any rate, I hope all is well with you people at CTZ. I still want to extend any invitation to anyone to come and visit the Bahamas. We will find a place for you and all that.
