Can anyone explain to me , in the simplest way possiable , what being in the spirit means. For example when John was in exile before his revalation he is said to have been in the spirit. People seem to use that phrase alot and Im not sure what it means.

I will try, but others may be able to handle it better.

We are spirit, mind and body beings.

Normally, our spirits work through our minds which acts through our bodies. So a 'joint effort' of spirit and flesh.

When in the spirit, we are operating through our spirit instead of our flesh and minds. Our flesh has little or no input into the issues.

Instead of seeing through our eyes, we see through our spirits. Instead of feeling with our flesh, we perceive through our spirits.

One isn't bound by physical laws when in such a state.

But contrary to Pentecostals, being in the spirit is the whooping, ecstatic and otherwise acting nuts state you see them in. It is a purer way of functioning and more closely in connection to God than when functioning through the flesh.

Hope that helped, a little.

I an reading a book on the Holy Spirit. At the present the author said that the spirit came to Jesus at his baptism and as I understand his writing, we receive the Spirit when we except Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
This is different than as some say "just believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved". Satan believes in Christ Jesus. We must except him as our ruler, master, as vital to us as water, food; a part of our being. Except the fact that we have sinned and are a sinner. Repent of our sins and depend on him to remove those sins from our desires. Then the Spirit enters us to help us control those urges that all humans have and to guide us.

I often get in the spirit in my bed, just before dawn. everything is real quiet. For me, it seems like lots of scriptures begin to flow through my head. I feel really close to God and make peace by re-affirming my commitment to Him and sorting through the adjustments and amends I need to make. Let me make myself totally clear. I do not hear audible voices or see visions. Things only come to mind that are from the scriptures anyway. I see it as a spiritual recharging. Then I arise and face the day in the flesh and the mind. I'm sure many share this experience. Understand that John on Patmos was in the spirit on a whole other level, then what we can hope to experience. He was an apostle of Christ. All the best................
