The greatest sin for any man: "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven." Matthew 21:31
This refers to the refusal to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
However, there is a great sin that a believer can commit and that is lack of spending time with God in prayer. When I heard first heard my father say this, I was about to argue. However, I held my tongue and thought about it. It is true. When we fall into temptation, it is because we did not take time to pray. When we are praised, so often we forget to pray and thank God for what He has done. We are often overburden and suffering, simply because we do not take it to the Lord in prayer.
There is a song that many of has heard all of our lives,
"Take it to the Lord in prayer." It was written by Joseph M. Scriven. A man from Ireland who fell in love once and was engaged to be married. However, his beloved was thrown from her horse and died, shortly before their wedding day. He was full of sorrow, but he gave his life to God. He prayed and he went to Canada to help the poor. While he was there, he met another woman and was engaged to be married. However, shortly before the wedding she got very sick and died. Of course, Joseph was grieved. But, he prayed and the event did not stop him from following God and helping the poor. He wrote a letter to his mother in Ireland. The letter contained the words to the well-known song that we have song so often.
"What a Friend We have in Jesus"
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He'll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.
Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there
