View Full Version : Stephen Hawking: 'We Must Leave Earth or Die'
Mankind will need to evacuate Earth and live in space to ensure the survival of humanity, Professor Stephen Hawking warned.
"The long-term survival of the human race is at risk as long as it is confined to a single planet," he said.
"Sooner or later, disasters such as an asteroid collision or nuclear war could wipe us all out.
"But once we spread out into space and establish independent colonies, our future should be safe.
"There isn't anywhere like the Earth in the solar system, so we would have to go to another star."

Going to another star is physically impossible for humans. From the closest star it takes light about 4 years to travel from there to here. It would take us close 18,000 years to get there with current technology.
No starship colony would survive the trip. We can't even get along on an entire planet for a couple thousand years. Imagine a colony trapped on a ship for untold generations.
God placed that limitation on us for a reason. Man is incapable of saving himself from destruction.
Running away to other planets and stars is not going to change to true nature of sinful man.

Even with FTL or cryo sleep, a planet would have to be terra formed first.
If we could do that, there, we could do it with Mars.

And think of how many generations it would take just to do that.
I believe its is literally impossible.

I really couldn't answer if impossible with cryo sleep or such.
Might very well be impossible.

Im not sure a human could survive or even return to a fully functioning state if they could be put to sleep for that long.

Well, it isn't really sleep. It is more like freezing the person in a moment of time.
Say 1,000 years passes but the bodies are so slowed only minutes or hours pass for them.
There are some life forms that can do it. Can exist for decades and wake up.
That is why I am so totally unsure of it for humans. Could preserve the body and wipe out brain cells, in example.
None of the science or technology, today is any where close to even thinking about trying it.

Mankind can't do anything...ANYTHING...without screwing it up. We can't save ourselves...impossible. We've proved that time and time again. The only thing mankind, as a whole, knows how to do is to destroy.
Mankind can't do anything...ANYTHING...without screwing it up.
I believe that is part of the appeal of the Star Trek series:
Hope for a productive future that right now looks more like Mad Max.
