Leadership. Leadership has been the Republican Party's buzzword since the attacks of September 11, 2001. Fighting a war on Islamofascism required stouthearted leadership, Republicans said. Bringing democracy to the Middle East was a task for a determined leadership. Restoring traditional morality and the rule of law could only be accomplished by true leadership.

The vaunted Republican Congress turned out to be all hat, no cattle, to paraphrase President Bush. The Republicans can boast few accomplishments during their four-year control of Congress: tax cuts, the Patriot Act, the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the confirmation of Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and John Roberts. Only the Alito and Roberts confirmations occurred during the last two years.

What happens next? A return to conservatism for the new Republican minority -- a minority that is only a minority because it abandoned conservatism to begin with. A revival for President Bush, despite predictions to the contrary -- for the first time in a long time, he can credibly target Democrats for inaction and radicalism. Don't expect Congress to remain Democratic for long. Americans put the Republican Party in the repair shop. When it emerges, it will be stronger for its foray into minority status.

Unless that conservatism includes caring for the screwed of Middle Class working guy, it is doomed.

Loss of pensions, exporting of jobs, judging the economy by the Stock Market and such have totally alienated the majority of Americans. Bragging about a booming economy and claimed low unemployment just rubs salt into the wounds.

And Bush now calling illegals migrants and the illegal invasion migration is rubbing it in even more.

I know people who think that just because you are a Christian, you MUST register as a republican. I'm not a republican. I do stand with Republicans on issues of morality and faith, but that is it.

I'm an Independent.

You wanna get lynched in this part of the Bible belt? Tell them you're not a card carrying member of the Republican party. Whew!

I cannot lay the blame entirely on the Democrats who have taken over the House and Senate and have pie in the sky dreams of taking over the White House in the next election. Republicans in Washington are the ones who need to re-examine exactly how they have behaved these twelve years past. Albeit they came into power with Newt Gingrich’s Contract with America, many in Washington today are no different to the Demagogs … oh sorry, I meant Democrats!

Yes, Republican leaders, we have enjoyed the tax cuts and our booming economy.
We are so excited about our low unemployment rate and have hoped that it would continue. And it has not gone without notice that under your guardianship President Bush, we have not had another 9/11.

However, as a conservative, I don’t want big government and I have not appreciated your spend, borrow and spend some more policies. If there is one glitch in all the good that you accomplished, it is the deficit.
