View Full Version : The confused logic of Catholic immigration policy

The Vatican is an independent nation surrounded by a high wall.

. . . but they deny that the USA has the right to control it's borders.

How do spell blatant hypocrisy?

Likewise, Vatican demands for open borders of the U.S. are rejected by a large majority of U.S. Catholic laymen. American Catholic laymen are as opposed to unrestricted immigration into the United States as non-Catholic Americans. However, a recent study by Roy Beck of the positions of religious denominations in the U.S. toward immigration highlighted this fact: "No religious group wields more power on behalf of high immigration to the U.S. than the Catholic Church.

Thanks to the 1880-1914 and 1970-present Great Waves of immigration consisting primarily of Catholics, the Church towers over all other American religious groups. Its 59 million members give it immense financial, institutional and political clout, even though polls suggest the majority of its members probably don't agree with its pro-immigration stances." Because of its extensive manipulation of U.S. immigration policy, the Catholic Church is mostly responsibile for the chaotic flow of illegal immigrants across our borders today.

A November 8, 1992, National Catholic Register article reveals why the Vatican is taking these stances. In it, Father Richard J. Ryscavage, executive director of the Migration and Refugee Services of the U.S. Catholic Conference noted that immigration is the "growing edge of Catholicism in the United States...We are in the middle of a huge wave of immigration...and most of them are Catholics...It's the key to our future and the key to why the Church is going to be very healthy in the 21st century."

Another recent study by David Simcox reveals Catholic leadership positions which most Americans will find shocking:

• The U.S. does not have an inherent right to limit migration.

• Every human has a right to migrate to the U.S. and take up residence there -- to seek better living conditions.

• The Catholic Church rejects the concept of national sovereignty.

• All immigrants and their offspring have a right to keep their native tongue.

• Immigration restrictions are immoral.

• The Catholic Church rejects the U.S. government distinction between political and economic refugees.

These are all official papal positions.

The Church in America [Canada, USA and Mexico and probably the rest of Latin America] must be vigilant advocate that protects, against all unjust restrictions, the natural right of each person to freely move within its own nation or to another nation.

What do you think is the chances for a George Bush veto on the Secure Fence Act?

. . . the RCC Political Action Committee [USCCB] is pushing for just that.

This website is designed to help achieve the goals of the Justice for Immigrants Campaign. It provides tools and information for diocesan and community-based organizing, education, and advocacy efforts. You will find information about Catholic teachings that underpin this Campaign, as well as proposals from the Catholic Bishops to achieve reforms in our nation’s immigration laws and policies that better reflect our values as a nation of immigrants.

We encourage you to visit this site often, as we will be updating it frequently, with resource materials, action alerts, and other information we hope you find useful.

A JOURNEY OF HOPE

Since the founding, the United States has received immigrants from around the world who have found opportunity and safe haven in a new land. The labor, values, and beliefs of immigrants from throughout the world have transformed the United States from a loose group of colonies into one of the leading democracies in the world today. From its founding to the present, the United States remains a nation of immigrants grounded in the firm belief that newcomers offer new energy, hope and cultural diversity.

Our common faith in Jesus Christ moves us to search for ways that favor a spirit of solidarity. It is a faith that transcends borders and bids us to overcome all forms of discrimination and violence so that we may build relationships that are just and loving.

They won't admit it, but just as Islam sees itself and the own true government for the world, so does the RCC.

In their Amil thinking, they will ultimately win.

CI:

The Vatican is more of a threat to the American way of life than the Kremlin ever was.

Their policy on illegal immigration is just one facet of their anti-American agenda.

Libertarian open-border evangelists like to stress that the philosophy of individual rights and capitalism implies that individuals have the right to come to the U.S. to live and work. Conversely, it is the prerogative of property owners stateside to invite immigrants to live with – or work for – them.

The gold standard non sequitur is reserved by open-border fetishists for belittling the burden of illegal immigration on the American taxpayer. Living at the public's expense, they concede, does indeed violate the rights of taxpayers. But why single out non-nationals? Is it any less of a violation of the taxpayer's rights for native-born individuals to suck at the public teat?

From the fact that you oppose taxpayer-funded welfare for nationals, it doesn't follow that extending it to millions of unviable non-nationals is financially or morally negligible (or that it comports with the libertarian aim of curtailing government growth). The argument is like declaring that because a bank has been robbed by one band of bandits, arresting the next is unnecessary because the damage has already been done.

How would immigration evangelists "reason" away the harm from violent crimes committed by non-nationals? Let's see: "We don't care if illegal immigrants commit more violent crimes than locals, because we believe violent offenses, committed by nationals and non-nationals alike, are wrong and should be phased out."

The cumulative costs of crime are a little harder to dismiss with such latrine logic.

Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:

Foreigners are admitted into Mexico according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress. (Article 32)

Immigration officials must ensure that immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance and for their dependents. (Article 34)

Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets the equilibrium of the national demographics, when foreigners are deemed detrimental to economic or national interests, when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy. (Article 37)

The Secretary of Governance may suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest. (Article 38)

Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:

Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request, i.e., to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants. (Article 73)

A National Population Registry keeps track of every single individual who comprises the population of the country, and verifies each individual’s identity. (Articles 85 and 86)

A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants (Article 87), and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number (Article 91).

Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned: Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned. (Article 116)

Foreigners who sign government documents with a signature that is false or different from that which he normally uses are subject to fine and imprisonment. (Article 116)

Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons:

Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished. (Article 117)

Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. (Article 118)

Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison (Articles 119, 120 and 121). Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico such as working with out a permit can also be imprisoned.

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says, A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally. (Article 123)

Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125)

Foreigners who attempt against national sovereignty or security will be deported. (Article 126)

Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law: A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127)

Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132)

All of the above runs contrary to what Mexican leaders are demanding of the United States. The stark contrast between Mexico’s immigration practices versus its American immigration preaching is telling. It gives a clear picture of the Mexican government’s agenda: to have a one-way immigration relationship with the United States.

Let’s call Mexico’s bluff on its unwarranted interference in U.S. immigration policy.

Let’s propose, just to make a point, that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) member nations standardize their immigration laws by using Mexico’s own law as a model.

Any guess as to which nation would object the loudest to such a proposal?

The Democrats and the USCCB both look at the illegal immigrant and see undocumented Democrats and Catholics.

Many conservatives dislike the Bush approach to immigration, with its calls for a guest worker program and earned legalization for some of the illegals already here. Nevertheless, the President and Congressional Republicans did manage to pass “enforcement first” legislation with provisions for workplace penalties and construction of 700 miles of border fence.

The Democrats have indicated they will compensate for this common sense victory with a sweeping, overly-lenient, unconditional amnesty proposal far beyond anything authorized by Bush (or even McCain). Immigration reform will almost surely clear Congress at some point, in some form, in the next two years.

Why would anyone on the right believe that in working with a Democratic House and Senate, Bush would come up with a stronger immigration bill than he would in working with his fellow Republicans—who are much less hospitable to the “open borders” crowd?

Recently the Catholic Bishops of Mexico issued a statement criticising the decision to build 1,200km wall between the US and Mexico, on the grounds that it will not stop emigration.

They recognise the right of a nation to control its borders and protect the interests and security of its citizens but the Mexican Bishops say a wall would not seem to be an appropriate solution.

They expressed concern for other walls of intransigence and intolerance and lack of effective negotiation between the concerned governments. The Bishops called on the authorities to approve and apply emigration laws, to revise national and local emigration policies and eradicate erroneous concepts of this reality."

Not walls but bridges lead to solutions for the challenges of the new millennium" - the Bishops conclude.

There is no society that can indefinitely allow a relentless flood of illegal aliens to contravene its laws, violate its sovereign borders, overwhelm its infrastructures and social systems, degrade employment opportunities for its own people, while the massiveness of the illegal invasion constantly degrades America's way of life, culture and language.

There are currently 23 million illegal aliens occupying our country today with 10,000 more A DAY entering America. Of those 23 million illegaIs, 90% are mostly Catholic Hispanics, 65% of whom originate from Mexico. These are the illegal alien 'migrants' or 'immigrants,' that the Catholic Church and Charities 'aids and abets.' One does wonder if 23 million Hindus or Muslims or Jews were to illegally invade America would the Catholic Church still be loudly advocating for 'Welcoming the Stranger' and 'Justice for [illegal alien] Immigrants'?

The mere FACT that 65% of the 20 million Hispanic illegals are Mexican (approximately 13 million) represents a demographic that is prima facie evidence that we are engaged in a de facto 'war' with Mexico. An asymmetric war that has been waged for more than two decades against our sovereign nation, maliciously and deviously by Mexico. During that time, the Catholic Church has functioned as a 'fifth column' by facilitating our enemies and seditiously 'aiding and abetting' their presence in America.

Whenever you see migrant or refugee, read illegal immigrant:

Pope Benedict XVI encouraged countries to ratify international documents aimed at protecting the rights of migrants, refugees and families and said the church should work to protect them from "hardships and humiliations."

In his message for the annual World Day for Migrants and Refugees, the pope used the example of the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt as a model of "the painful condition in which all migrants live, especially refugees, exiles, evacuees, internally displaced persons, those who are persecuted."

Archbishop Agostino Marchetto, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Travelers, said at the press conference that local communities should welcome refugees and their families. Instead of highlighting the "values and potential contribution" these people can offer the host country, he said, some people depict refugees as a threat or annoyance.

Cardinal Renato Martino, temporary president of the migrants council and president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said the Gospels call for people to reach out, even while countries are erecting barriers and "building societies that are hostile" toward newcomers.

The cardinal said it was ironic that so many walls, real or bureaucratic, are still being built "in a world that joyfully welcomed the fall of the Berlin Wall."

He called the proposed construction of a fence along part of the U.S.-Mexican border "an inhuman project."

Cardinal Martino and Archbishop Marchetto praised the cooperation between the Mexican and U.S. bishops in opposing the 700-mile fence and their work to address the needs and problems of migrants.

With Mexico approaching civil war, we will no longer have an illegal immigration problem . . .

. . . they will overnight become refugees seeking political asylum.

Has anyone noticed that the 700 mile fence with Mexico that our Congress approved hasn't been built yet?

The longer we ignore the problem on our southern border, the worse it gets.
