Our church holds communion the first Sunday of every month. this morning before communion my Pastor said that "he urges us not to partake if we are not right with God" , and that "if we, do We bring dammnation upon ourselves"
So I went home and have been searching my bible for where it says this. Is this scriptural? Could someone let me know.

i did Partake , because the way they hold communion makes it uncomfortable for anyone not to , but if what he says is true then I shouldnt have.

I sent him an email asking him to hold commuion another way , perhaps before regular services . Our church is full of people still seeking or searching so if what he says is true I think communion should not be something to fool around with and should be taken very seriously.

It is serious.

And being ready means born-again. Not being perfect.

I always preferred calling it the Lord's Table. That carries more meaning to me. :D

It doesn't say that anywhere.

I suspect this is the passage being referenced.
1 Corinthians 11

23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. 33So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other. 34If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment.

It says it is a sin to take the Lord's Table for the wrong reasons. Forgetting it represents the blood and bodily death of Christ in the cross for our sins.

Yes, it clearly says there can be worldy consequences. But no, it does not say damnation. Damnation means sending you to Hell and the Lake.

A born-again believer cannot loose their salvation. Romans 8 makes that very clear.

One who take that is not born-again adds to their damnation, as in punishments, but they are already damned, so this act does not damn thing.

It is regretable any preacher uses the term damned, instead of a sin. The difference is huge, as regards a believer.

Once again, the good old KJV does a bad mistranslation and conveys a false doctrine. As in loss of salvation.
29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
Here is what the Greek word it translates as damnation means.

When I was attending church I felt like a fake sometimes taking the communion becasue I spcifically was in a sinful relationship, and maybe even sinned the right before church began so I felt not right about taking it, becasue the way it was presented (kinda like in romans8's church.) How glad I was to learn that it was a supper for all believers, not just the super holy.
