Don't you just love it? Ford is eliminating more US jobs and investin $9 Billion more in Mexican manufacturing facilities.

Then they expect those vehicles to sell here.

Hello! Who is going to buy all this stuff from all the companies when they don't have the money to do so?

Nice to know that there is a company who could seriously
put a dent in the American debt problem, but who is
electing to do an UN-AMERICAN thing with its resources, instead!

Ford Motor Company is sucking wind:

Ford, struggling to overcome record losses, plans to borrow as much as $18 billion to pay for job cuts and factory closings and will back its loans with collateral for the first time. [edit: There isn't much market for FORD junk bonds]

New CEO Alan Mulally must raise cash to revamp the North American auto unit as he works to boost sales and recover from a $6.99 billion loss in the first nine months of the year.

Ford's switch to asset-backed loans is a sign investors are demanding protection from a default.

Ford is using U.S. plants, other automotive assets and "all or a portion" of profitable units such as Ford Motor Credit Co. and Volvo as the collateral.

The company had $154 billion in debt outstanding as of Sept. 30. Its North American unit has lost money in eight of the past nine quarters, and its share of the U.S. new-vehicle market will decline for the 11th consecutive year in 2006.

My guess is that the American Automobile Industry is getting ready for $10K Chinese cars in 2008:

Ford just closed a plant about 30 miles from here. GM is getting ready to close one about 60 miles away.

This idiots brag about building foreign assembly plants here, which are heavily robotic. The real money jobs, as in engine manufacturing are NOT in the US.

What fool thinks the US can prosper on management only jobs? Kicking in some retail and service jobs?

Just wait for $10K disposable Chinese cars:

. . . drive them for 4 years/80K miles and throw them away.

While the great sucking sound you hear is our industrial capacity . . . .

Sorry but american car manufacturers stopped being revolutionary decades ago. Something to do with unions and such I believe. They kill the ability to be competitive.

Honda, Toyota, and now Hyundai are leaving them in the dust.

Ford actually thought they could keep the same old same old and remain viable in the market? Or that the SUV boom was going to keep them prosperous forever? What a lack of vision.

I believe their SUV, a pickup truck and the Mustang may have been their best sellers. SUV boom is bust. The housing/contractor market is busting, no demand for pick-ups any more. And the Mustang is a niche market to begin with.

Also dont believe that they ever shook the image of poor quality manufacturing. Remember their "Quality is Job One!" campaign?

Henry Ford is rolling in his grave I bet.

There was a time I would have agree the US manufacturers were not creative.

Now, the dull ones are the foreign ones, I believe. In example, 300C against Lexus, Mercedes and such, 300 wins at a cheaper price.

Vans, you cannot beat the ride of a Town and Country. And you get more for you money than you do from a Toyota, in example.

Even with a cash press on, safety is driving many people to bigger cars. Even in the Toyota line, the Camry 6 cylinder is its top seller now, and it is over priced for what you get.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules anymore on quality. The market is changing, a lot. Buyers perceptions are beginning to catch up to reality.
