With the Senate looking at an increase in minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour, this bring up many issues, obviously.

Let us face it, even $7.25 an hour is not enough to live on.

But then the issues of inflation and so on.

What is the answer?

I wonder how many small, private businesses can afford to pay that? You know...family owned and operated small businesses. I think there needs to be an increase, don't get me wrong...but how many small business owners will not be able to meet the salaries?

Hard to answer.

But I do know big businesses, Home Depot, Penny's, Lowes and so on have taken advantage of the wage issues and have slashed jobs that should pay a lot more almost in half in some cir***stances.

Is it better to loose jobs to get others paying more? Would the economy adjust to support the changes? Or would inflation adjust the wages to effectively where they are now.

But really, since we import so much wouldn't it really allow a lot more people to buy a lot more?

Really a confusing issue.

min. is 7.59 or somethin like that.
a lot of companys pay 8.50-10. average.

still not enough to live on. I think many will have to live with family,
and room with others to make it.

a lot of the decent paying jobs are gone.
and too health insurance is almost extinct out here.

also, many business's are not using good sense,
and go bankrupt with old business practices.
no adjusting to what is.

and what really gets me is that if you go to a thrift shop,
you will pay more than you could buy it new!

seems everything is upside down and going moreso that way

Your state is set higher than the Federal. Most states are not.

Here in GA. in example, a lot of bank teller jobs are $5.XX. Wendies and McDonalds, around here, pay $7.00. Home depot wants to start you at $8-9.

..................

I work in Chicago, live close by.

Here:
min wage is 6.xx in IL and 5.xx in Northwest Indiana.
Average rent for a one/2 bedroom is 800 +++ ish in city 650-9ish in suburb
hamburgers , no fry- just burger is about 3.78 ish ,like my estimation on change, w tax? :)
gas/electric is a killer, for a two bedroom Duples our bill almost hit $200! We are totally conservative with the energy, even kept it at 59-57!! even in day with one space heater and it was still like 160! That is with the windows sealed with plastic and draft blockers up. (the windows are really old)
Gas is averaging 3.00

Here, with the dollar menu at McDonalds, you can get a double cheeseburger for $1 and fries and a drink too. So, for lunch, if I wanna go to Mickey D's, I can get a burger, fries and drink for $3.00. Not bad.

Gas is $2.66-$2.69 a gallon at the BP where I buy it.

Most jobs at their minimum are $6.50 an hour.

Rent usually runs around $500 to $700 for a 2 bedroom apartment...and around $800 for a small house of that size. Our community is very rural.

Gas is running $2.89 here.

2 bedroom apartments, in general, start at about $850.00 here. Houses over $1,000.

Small house around here begin at about $170,000 on resale. New begin at about 200,000 with most $250-300,000.
