View Full Version : Purpose here?

Early last February I began two threads on this board: Legitimate Christian? And Bible Inspiration. I quickly realized that I would be a lone voice on this board, and I decided that I had neither the time, nor the inclination, to repeat the conversations that I had already had on numerous other boards. I quickly forgot about this board and did not give it another thought until I got an email about mechanical problems this board was having. I had to do a Google search to even determine where the email had come from.
I could take this email as a sign that I should resume a presence here and things are a little more settled for me now than they were in February. But, I still don’t want to come here just to end up in a shouting match. If there is no hope of changing anyone’s mind, I doubt that my presence would serve any purpose. I certainly don’t want to waste my time with people who won’t take the time and effort to have a serious conversation.
That being said I’d like to know if anyone here would be interested in considering a semi-fictitious dialog that is based on conversations I have had with numerous advocates of modern Bible translations. This dialog between a lay supporter of the KJVO position (which I am, of a sort) and a clergyman who accepts modern translations, describes what I understand of the KJVO issue. I would rather present my views with this dialog rather than in the piecemeal fashion of numerous posts.
Once I know that at least some of the people here won’t attack me or reject me simply because I don’t share their beliefs, I would be willing to talk about other matters.

I, personally, welcome your comments. I find alternative viewpoints to be enlightening in multiple ways (ref. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Thessalonians%205:21;&version=31;)).
However, the "Lone Martyr" mentality does not add anything constructive to dialogues. To the contrary, the "Lone Martyr" mentality relies on ad hominem whining to defend its viewpoint, as opposed to substantive evidence and sound reasoning. Therefore, let us dispose of such mentalities (ref. 2 Timothy 2:23 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Timothy%202:23;&version=31;)), so that the mutual edification of the saints may be pursued (Romans 14:19 (http://www.biblegateway.com/keyword/?search=edification&searchtype=all&version1=31&bookset=2), see also Proverbs 27:17 (http://www.biblegateway.com/keyword/?search=iron%20sharpens%20iron&version1=31&searchtype=all)).
:tiphat: That is my "two cents."

What do you want to change peoples minds about?? I for one will never change my mind about Jesus and his word. I know they are truth.
If there is something else you want to change my minds about, and if its the truth, Go ahead and lets here what you have to say. As far as wasting time, what else is the internet for? lol.

All I will say is that I reread the two threads you started. You were not attacked and you were responded to with factual and considered responses.
Your response was to disappear.
And you are taking the position, in this post, you have all the answers and we need to listen to you and thus change to fit your thinking.
Well, that is not discussion or debate. That is preaching. And preaching is not allowed here.
Fact is maybe you have some things to learn. And maybe that is why you were drawn back here.
With that said, you are very welcome to post here. But please, not reruns of discussions on other forums to which you are telling us here why they are wrong. Just post your statements, positions, questions and evidences and we will respond. Then you can respond to our responses.
Here, we require questions to be answered by all parties. No one simply preaches to others.
For KJV issues, please just post your thread starter in the forum found here. (http://www.christiantalkzone.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=115)
For discussions on roles of churches, pastors and such please start a thread in this forum. (http://www.christiantalkzone.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=108)
Then we can respond and let the discussion progress.
Let me make it clear. We reject no one because they do not agree with us 100%. In fact there is not 100% agreement on all issues between us here. We have no posted iron-clad set of doctrines required to be accepted.
But we will disagree, and disagree strongly, between us, on issues. That is how one learns and grows.
Not by setting firm parameters of belief one must function within.
