JERUSALEM – Just five days before national elections here, acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's Kadima party revealed yesterday it would divide Jerusalem and allow a Palestinian state to be established in parts of Israel's "eternal capital."

The revelation follows months of denials by top Kadima officials that the party would advocate withdrawing from Jerusalem.

"The Old City, Mount Scopus, the Mount of Olives, the City of David, Sheikh Jarra will remain in our hands, but [regarding] Kafr Akeb, Abu-Ram, Shuafat, Hizma, Abu-Zaim, Abu-Tur, Abu Dis, in the future, when the Palestinian state is established, they will become its capital," said Otniel Schneller, a Kadima member who represented the party at a debate yesterday on dividing Jerusalem.

THE DIVIDING OF JERUSALEM

CONSIDER: The United Nations has demanded since 1970 that Jerusalem should be divided between the Israelis and Palestinians. A still unfulfilled prophecy (written in 2,400 years ago) predicts that a multinational force will divide the city of Jerusalem.

PROPHECY: ZECHARIAH 14:1-2

1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 FOR I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and HALF OF THE CITY shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

A comparison of this prophecy to recent times is uncanny:

Jerusalem will be the “spoil” of the Jews:

“...thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem...”

According to Zechariah, Jerusalem would be a “spoil” of the Jews when it is divided in the end time. A “spoil” is something taken as the result of a war. This precisely matches the current history of the Middle East. The Jews did not own the entire city of Jerusalem for almost 2,000 years until 1967, when they took the city as a spoil of the Six Day War.

A multinational army will divide Jerusalem.

“...thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem...”

Jerusalem was first divided shortly before Israel declared its independence in the twentieth century. Jordan possessed East Jerusalem, and the Israelis possessed West Jerusalem. After the Six Day War of 1967, the Israelis reclaimed the entire city for the first time in almost 2,000 years. Since that time, it has been the position of the United Nations that Jerusalem should be divided again. They want East Jerusalem to be part of a Palestinian state, but the Jews refuse to give up any part of their holy city.

Consider the language of Zechariah's prophecy, and compare it to this article from the Jerusalem Post:

“The city can, of course, be divided again. Presumably, this is what the Palestinians hope will eventually happen, giving them control of the city that was once under Jordanian occupation between 1948 and 1967. But such a solution would be unacceptable to a vast majority of Israelis.”

Negotiations over Jerusalem., Jerusalem Post, 12/08/1995

The army that expels the Jews from Jerusalem will be comprised of “all nations”

A “global army” has never existed at any time in history. That is, until the 20th century, when such a force was assembled to Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. This force had over 30 nations assembled together into one army. In the last days, a similar army will be assembled to force the Israelis out of the occupied territories, only this army will contain troops from every nation on earth.

The Jews will be expelled from “half of the city”

Zechariah wrote: “...half of the city shall go forth into captivity...”

“Captivity” comes from the Hebrew word “bagowlaah” which means, “to exile”, “expel” or “banish”. Therefore, this verse should be literally translated:

“For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city,”

New American Standard Version, Updated Edition

Anyone who is familiar with the current Arab-Israeli dispute in the Middle East knows that it is the position of the United Nations that East Jerusalem should to be given to the Palestinians. Compare this to Zechariah’s statement that “half of the city shall be exiled’.Three and a half years after Jerusalem is divided, the Lord will return and defeat this international force.

Only Jews will be exiled from the city, the rest of the inhabitants will be allowed to remain:

“...half of the city shall go forth into exile. And the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city.”

The prophets took for granted that the Jews inhabited Jerusalem. Therefore, the phrase “rest of the people” must refer to non-Jews. This again precisely reflects the historical realties of today. The United Nations wants the Jews to leave East Jerusalem--the Palestinians will be allowed to remain.

THE UNDENIABLE FACTS OF HISTORY:

Since 1967, the United Nations has demanded that the Israelis leave East Jerusalem.
2,400 years ago, the Prophet Zechariah predicted that all nations will expel the Jews from half of the city.
In 1967, the Jews took Jerusalem as a spoil of war
2,400 years ago, Zechariah wrote that the Jews would take the Jerusalem of the future as a spoil of war

IN CONCLUSION
Historically, conquering armies would invade an entire city and keep it. There was no reason for an invading army to divide a city, until the politics of the 20th century. Yet Jerusalem has been divided once in recent times, and the United Nations is demanding that it be divided again. The fact that the exact circumstances are set up for the fulfillment of Zechariah's prophecy, reveals that reality of God to anyone who is sincerely looking for proof.

THE LAND OF ISRAEL DIVIDED BY THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD

CONSIDER: The Prophet Joel wrote that a time would come when all nations would divide the land of Palestine. This matches the history of Israel, and the political realities of today. The United Nations, divided Palestine when Israel was recreated in 1947. After the Six Day War, Israel regained the portions of land that the U.N had given to the Palestinians. Since that time, the U.N. wants Israel divided Israel again, as Joel's prophecy declared!

PROPHECY: JOEL 3:1-2 Written in the 8th century B.C.

1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

PROPHECY FULFILLED: There are several predictions in this passage that have been fulfilled:

The Israelis would become exiles among every nation on earth. He wrote that “all nations” would be responsible for the Jews being “...scattered among the nations...”

History tells us that the antisemitism present in many nations often caused the Jews to relocate to other lands. For this reason, "all nations" scattered the peoples of Israel throughout the world, during the past 2000 years.

The Jews will return to Palestine after this global exile. God promised through Joel's prophecy: “...I shall restore the exiles of Judah and Jerusalem...”

This prophecy declares that "all nations" have “parted my land (Israel)” The word “part” means "to divide” in the Hebrew language. This is clearly a prediction that all nations of the world will divide the ancient land of Israel.

Unless each individual nation took turns dividing Palestine in history (which did not occur), “all nations” must be unified in order to divide the land Israel. The nations of the world were never unified in any manner until the 20th century. Shortly after the United Nations was founded, it divided the land of Israel between Jews and Palestinians. Now that the Jews have regained all of ancient Israel (after the Six Day War), the U.N. has demanded that they give these portions of land back.

The U.N. has passed many resolutions demanding that the Jews withdraw from these “occupied territories”. At the time Israel was first divided, all nations did not belong to the U.N., even though the majority of them did. However, every nation is a member (except Vatican City) today. For this reason, there is coming a time when Israel will be divided again, with all nations participating. Biblical prophecy reveals that this will happen three and one half years prior to the Lord’s coming. So the prophecy in Joel will be completely fulfilled in a future time, when a multinational force will repartition Israel.

Joel made an extremely unlikely prediction, and it is coming to pass. The United Nations has divided Palestine once in human history, and now they are demanding that it be divided again. The future of the current dispute between Israel and the Palestinians is foretold in Joel's words. Israel may withdraw from potions of this land, but the complete withdrawal from the West Bank and the Golan Heights will happen in the future. However, the Lord returns three and a half years after Israel is divided, and defeats this multinational force. When the Messiah comes to reign, the Jews will eternally possess this land.

The nations of the world will be judged "in the valley of Jehoshaphat" at this time.

I don't quite agree on the exacting scenario laid out in the article.

But I do agree change is coming to Israel. When it does we will be gone.
