What is the US?
I think it is socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Can`t speak for the US, but here in the UK I would say we are socially liberal and fiscally socialist. The current administration (Labour led by Prime Minister Tony Blair), was traditionally socialist. However, Blair moved it to the right, and since 1997 when they regained power after 18 years out of government, they have been authoritarian in outlook. Economically they claim to have spread wealth, but they have made 28 tax increases, and are ever more unpopular.
Meanwhile, the Conservative Party (now led by David Cameron, and once by the great Margaret Thatcher), is regaining ground and could win the next General Election (due in 2009).

Definately socially liberal, makes me sick personally!
Fiscally, hmmm, I am not sure I would call it conservative, but then, what do I know....
