Mexico discovers 'huge' oil field
Mexican President Vicente Fox has announced the discovery of a new deep-water oil field, which is believed to contain 10bn barrels of crude.
The field is in the Gulf of Mexico, and Mexico says it could be bigger than its largest oil field, Cantarell.

Production there is said to have declined sharply in recent years.

Mr Fox made the announcement as figures showed the country's total oil reserves had fallen 2% between 2003 and 2005.

Perforation of the well known as Noxal 1, which is located about 100km (60 miles) from the port of Coatzacoalcos on the coast of Veracruz state, started in December

That has huge political implications.

:whistlin: This depends on the Mexican government's capacity to act effectively. When has the Mexican government exercised authoritative competence?

As demonstrated by Mexican drug trade and emigration, the country runs the government, not vice versa.

Acting completently is an issue.

But because of our need for oil sources under any situations this has political implications both here and in Mexico.

This is a very complex and unclear situation. But it is one that will not just lie there dormant.

;) Right. You are disputing my post with speculative presuppositions. Until newer news related to this discovery arises, your viewpoint is no better than mine.

No. My point remains.

If the oil is there something will progress. Be it effective or not.

My point was on such as oil having an effective government or not will not hold things back. One way or another.

There is too much money and energy at stake.

Review the history of oil development in the Middle East and elsewhere. Often there really was no central government to deal with at all but it still happened.
