View Full Version : Something I learned this morning

I learned something valuable this morning.
Yesterday I was talking to someone I had led to the lord, and we were talking about their relationship with God.
I told them how I get up in the mornings and just sit with God and spend time with him and that I thought they should do the same thing.
This morning I realized that that is my religion. Nothing wrong with it perhaps, but it is my relationship and maybe not the way they will relate to him.
I thought about people who have fasted, or don’t eat meat on a certain day or worship on a certain day, or wear a certain type of cloths and in doing those things a certain individual may have drawn closer to the Lord and they thought the same thing I did. That everyone should do this in his or her walk with God.
Everyone’s relationship is just that, his or her relationship with God. It will be different than mine. All I can do is point them to Christ and do my best to encourage them. I shouldn’t try to get them to do what I do. If my roommate had told me I needed to fast for 21 days because it is something that I should do I would probably never be able to do it. I would probably always be failing in my attempt.
Anyway I hope you see my point. We can’t put what we do in our walk with God on others. That is our walk.

Keep walking with the Master,

Yes, God created each of us to be unique. What works for you may not work for the next person. Time should be spent with the Lord daily, but there are no fast rules as to when or how. It's hard sometimes as Christians to remember that we are all different - seeking the same Lord.

We have to indeed be careful to not cross the line from relationship to legalism.

The fasting and set prayer times just are not me. But I do spend time with the Lord in my own way.

I believe that is why it is stressed in the Bible prayer and such are private between God and the saint.

I think I am having growing pains! Thank the Lord. I certainly need some growth.

It seems so easy to fall back into legalism.

It is like, what works for me! Has to work for you.
I sure have a lot of growing to do.
Seems like there is no where to go but up from here.

 Amen!

Many times, a saint will do these things to express their love and loyalty to God. They do these things because of that love. I have things I do as well, and I believe God likes that. I'm not a legalist, but still have little things I do in my private walk that are expressly meant for God alone.

My Dad gets up at 2:00 or 3:00 o'clock in the morning to spend time with the Lord. It's quiet and peaceful, and he can focus on the Heavenly Father. He knows he doesn't have to, but he chooses to. It's a special time between him and the Father. I respect that.

Sometimes it feels like the learning curve for a Christian is straight up! But then again, some lessons come so easily. But, look at the value of what we learn. Eternal truths.

This morning as the Holy Spirit was gently tugging on my heart to come spend time with him. I realized that I was going before the Omnipotent creator of the universe, the only wise potentate, Lord of lords, King of kings, The Monarch of the universe, and Savior of the world.
I got on my knees and wept as I considered that our Lord left the majesty and splendor of Heaven and came to us, walked among us, bore our sins, (my sins) and died a cruel death and rose from the dead, so that we can sit, stand, kneel or lay in his presence without fear or condemnation.
(Eph 2:6 NIV) And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

Oh, the privilege we have to sit with him as his own children.

(1 John 3:1 NIV) How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Seated with you; in his presence,

Arthur, TLIR
