There is always an ongoing debate over what the difference between a cult and a dangerous doctrine is.
There are two key issues from which you will see all the other issues stem:
1. The identity of God and Christ:
a. Cults always have another God and another Christ.
b. Dangerous doctrines maintain the true defining of God and Christ.
2. Salvation:
a. Cults depart from salvation by repentance through faith by grace. But be very careful here because they often use the correct words but change the meanings.
b. Dangerous doctrine holders maintain repentance through faith by grace.
Sometimes the line is ultra thin. Such as with Catholicism the official doctrine redefines salvation to works but vast numbers maintain the true meaning while taking part in the other errors.
Many groups are split with parts crossing the line into cultism while others practice false and dangerous doctrines but have not crossed the line.
Very hard area to place groups correctly.
