Double Tailed Gold Fish
http://www.christiantalkzone.net/mkportal/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/normal_fish.jpg
Not the best picture since I do not have a digital camera and had to use a scanner.
What looks like a shadow at the top of the tail is actually to top edge of the second tail fin. Scanners don't allow playing with shot angles. :not:
The carving is full 3D and stands on its four fins.
My other carving efforts and paintings are to big for the scanner screen and we just don't take many pictures with the old regular camera.

Indian Chief Wood Burning (1st view)

Indian Chief Wood Burning (2nd view)
http://www.christiantalkzone.net/mkportal/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/10001/normal_indianchief2.jpg
My scanner screen is 2" short of doing the whole wood burning. So, unable to decide which to show I did both. First cuts off the bottom 2" and the second the top 2".

I really like the lizards...
did you paint them?
CoreIssue

I created a penetrating color by mixing water and green paint.
That made a green tinting in the wood instead of on top of the wood. Keeps all the details crisp.

what does mixing water with paint do?
They stand out because they are fully carved into the wood for one thing. They literally stand on their own feet.
The color draws them out more by the contrast of green on brown.
Mixing water soluable paint with water colors the water. Same principle as kids water paints but at a higher quality.
So, when you paint the wood instead of going on thicker on top the wood the water soaking into the wood takes the color in with it. It literally soaks into the first few thousands of an inch of wood instead of laying on top.
So, you get the grain and such of the wood for texture and the color of the paint for color. But not a covering color, a highlighting and merged with the wood color color.
A great way to highlight or tint wood without covering it over. And gives some protection.
Like protecting wood and keeping the natural color by using a clear penetrating wood sealer. It glosses the wood and seal it withou altering the color.
Penetrating wood sealers with tint do similar to the paint method but cover topically more. Thus for just tinting and toning the watered down paint is better.

Great work! My husband used to enjoy making furniture. Have you ever used a shaving horse? Husband made a great kitchen table from pine using the shaving horse. He made our Bedroom suit from Walnut. He also made son's bed from Hickory. It looks neat. Kinda like a tree. I showed him your work. He is very impressed.

No, not for sale. Too many memories attached to it.
Yep. Islands and lizards go together. Guam was loaded with them.

I too, would love to get something going for the kids around here. I have some expertise in music and quite a bit of free time. I'm thinking maybe a sport or even a drum corp. kinda thing. I figure that some would take in an interest in something constructive early on, before they get old enough for that first drink, and become drunks like their parents.
Any suggestions?
all the best........

Well, if BSA is there, they probably need music and other merit badge counselors. Even Asst. Scoutmasters and probably Committee Members.
Or, if 4-H, there would either being existing programs, or they would probably let you start one.
Just two organizations, off the top of my head, to check into.

Off subject, but you could always sell your things on ebay if wanted. My brother in law did and made good money. People see something thats rare or the only one around and they want to buy it and will pay good money for it.

I have thought of it.
Just never got there because I didn't have a good place to work.
In the house is too messy. Outside is too hot.
Might have to reconsider it.

No can do. I live in an a community with covenants.
Yea, that restricts, but it also protects from bad neighbors.
It would have to be in the basement, which is finished, but might have my elder FIL moving in.
