what does one think or say when this happens..

one time many yrs ago I was reading Jerimiah (if I remember right) and God was showing me something.
I mentioned it at that time to my sister in law, and she got rude and said
"well, thats something God is showing you" and not to push it off on her.

I was'nt trying to push it off on her.

my question, how does one handle this?

and why do they do that?

is it because its encrouching on some sin they dont want to give up?
just mentioning it causes them pressure?

and what do you say to such retorts from people?

They either do not want to give up a sin, or they are being shown more light they cant bear to handle.

The more light that is revealed to them the more responsibility they have to take on and be accountable for.

I think you are right. If you were simply discussing it and a person gets angry, it could be because they feel convicted of it. We are all so far from being perfect & there are usually many factors at work when someone who is saved has such a negative response to the Word.

I think if you are unaware of why the passage you are discussing has made the other person angry, you could simply apologize & explain that you were not trying to judge. If you do know why they are getting upset....like you know what sin it is they are protecting, I guess it would depend on the setting & your relationship with the person that you may want to ask them some questions about why they are uncomfortable.

Every one of us has some sins that we easily let go of & others we try to justify. It is not right, but eventually the Holy Spirit will bring such strong conviction on us that we will learn it is better to let the sin go.

Sometimes Christians try to live with one foot in Heaven & one foot in the world. I have found the most flammable subjects of our day seem to be watching TV or movies, Christian drinking, smoking or gambling, the kind of music that is acceptable, etc.

I had no clue as too which or what sin it could have been.
was'nt even thinking of such a thing at that point in time.
its was a bewildering experience.

it didnt pertain to a particular subject like what you suggested.
but she is very much into the flesh being wof.

one time later she even called me all upset about her brother and me judging her.
she was trying to say that being in a bar she was "witnesing"

I told her well you are being convicted I had'nt even had a clue she'd been seen by my husband after she went into a tirade. she said no I am not being convicted.
boy was she angry!

Sounds like she either may not be certain of her salvation or she's really trying to ignore conviction. In my personal opinion, I think you should - when you get a chance - see if you can open up a conversation regarding the basics of salvation. I mean ask her about when she was saved maybe. And see if she will say that she is a born-again believer or that Christ is her savior.

If she gets uncomfortable here, then you have your answer. It may be time to start witnessing to her as if she were never saved. I think the easiness of many churches today allows church-going people to believe (on the surface) that they are in good standing with the Father. And as long as they put their faith in the people who are telling them the "I'm okay, you're okay" gospel, they can continue to live in the illusion.

We dont have any contact with her anymore because of the evil things she would do to me. she's pulled some wild stunts! I would ask otherwise and I will try to remember this for future use! since she's deep into wof, she thinks as long as you "confess" it whether you actually believe it or not it makes it so. so my opinion is she is probably not saved. cause she does'nt understand that you must mean it in your heart.

(I'm trying to learn the quotes here so if this turn out funny ya all will know what I was doing)

That's okay....it works.

Well, again....you are probably right in your assessment of the situation. It is probably better that you are not spending any time with her any more. But its good that you had that conversation with her.....you obviously touched a nerve which will give her something to think about.

For future cases, I wouldn't try to avoid subjects that cause people to get defensive. Just make sure you know your stuff & don't get confused by their false doctrine.
