View Full Version : Growing Deep in the Christian Life
When I finally had all the bad theology, politics and confusion of RCism that I could stand, I used this book, along with a Ryrie NASV, to go through the Bible at a level that I never has occasion to as a Catholic.
. . . in three months of prayer, study and anguish, I grew more than I had done in 38 years as a RC.

Why did it cause you anguish?

More than likely, from letting go of all you've been conditioned with your whole life. Sometimes we hold on to false doctrine because of the sentimental ties that bind, and not because of ignorance.
Letting go of some things is anguishing.
But... I speak for myself here, not Sid.
Why did it cause you anguish?
It was hard to come to understand that almost everything I was taught about Christianity was wrong.
The RCC is just another abusive religion.

There are links to the Bible Gateway online Bible and Crosswalk interlinear in the Extras link on the link bar. I always have tried to put them on every board as study tools.
How Must Believers Respond
As spiritual darkness overcomes the diminishing light of the Gospel, believers must be of sober spirit and be on the alert (1 Peter 5:1 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%205:1&version=49)). Those who belong to the Lord Jesus must put on the full armor of God each day and be prepared for spiritual warfare (Eph. 6:10-18 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Eph.%206:10-18%20;&version=49;)). Satan will continue taking advantage of those who are ignorant of his schemes (2 Cor. 2:11 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Cor.%202:11;&version=49;)).
His sustained attacks on the Christian faith will become more and more fierce as we approach the day when Jesus Christ returns triumphantly to the earth. Until that glorious appearing of our Savior, deceiving spirits will continue to influence the great apostasy from the faith. "The falling away" is taking place everywhere as apostates turn from the truth to follow doctrines of demons (1 Tim. 4:1 (http://http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Tim.%204:1;&version=49;)).
How can believers brace for the storm that we know will cause shipwreck to the faith of apostates? Paul exhorts us: "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" (Eph. 6:10 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Eph.%206:10;&version=49;)). "Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Cor. 15:58 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Cor.%2015:58;&version=49;)). In the epistle of Jude, which is often called the Acts of the Apostates, we are exhorted "to contend earnestly for the faith which was once and for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jude%203;&version=49;)).
