I bookmarked this so I could read it. Right off the bat, this caught my attention...
It would be difficult to find a charismatic/evangelical service/program/tract/book that is not liberally sprinkled with the word 'Anointed, which has become arguably the most overused, overworked, misunderstood, misinterpreted term in the Pentecostal and Charismatic arenas. At various times they either claim to be 'under' the Anointing, can 'feel' the anointing come over them, 'feel' the anointing in the room, and often issues stern warnings to their critics to “touch not the Lord’s anointed.” Many charismatics describe this 'Anointing' as closely akin to feeling heat or electricity. Virtually all the references to the anointing place it in the category of a commodity... Something that not all Christians possess and that the ministers can bestow on others (Usually after money has changed hands).
I have heard this term bandied about so much by the WOF crowd, and I sit there knowing that the things they do are NOT anointed by God.
:( You can flip on the television and see Jesse Duplantis sell his book about the Anointing of Prosperity.
Breaking that down, he's basically saying you need God's anointing power to gain prosperity. :tsk:
I think God reserves His anointing for things that are less worldly. Things such as wealth (silver, gold, mammon), which gather rust and corrupt.

1) Anointing is not the "power of God," but the act of being consecrated or set aside. (anointing is constantly mis-defined as the "power of God.")
Hmmm... interesting.
2) in the Old Testament the anointed ones were the Priests, Prophets and Kings. In the Hebrew Bible, the High Priest and the king are each sometimes called "the anointed" (Leviticus 4:3, 5, 16; 6:20; Psalms 132:10). Prophets were also anointed (1 Kings 19:16; 1 Chronicles 16:22; Psalms 105:15). Anointing a king was equivalent to crowning him, in fact in Israel a crown was not required (1 Samuel 16:13; 2 Samuel 2:4, etc.). Thus David was anointed as king by the prophet Samuel:
More interesting...
3) In the New Testament ALL believers are said to be anointed.. Let me repeat that.. It is NOT a few special persons who are anointed but ALL believers have a general anointing. John makes it clear that this gives us a relationship with our blessed Lord, but it never makes one better, greater or more powerful than another. As in the following three verses
 I'm sure WOFers would be shocked to know that we don't need to buy those books of theirs in order to receive the ANOINTING. We were consecrated unto God the moment we accepted Christ and were covered by His blood. Washed clean, set aside....anointed.
How many times have we heard WOF teachers say, "I feel the anointing in this place."
I would say the anointing is, God at work in or through a person or meeting.
Someone may feel a burning or cooling sensation while be healed but that is not the anointing it is just a sensation. Some one may not feel a thing and be just as healed as the one who had the sensation.
Someone may be shareing the word of God. There is an anointing on the word and there is an anointing on the person or better said in the person. The anointing is God in the person and God in the word saving the hearer.
I was sharing the word with an elderly lady one day. All of a sudden she blurts out "I'm healed, the pain is gone." I didn't know she was in pain and I didn't feel a thing. That was God, that was his anointing or his working, healing that lady the moment she believed the word.

Anointing is truly an abused term.
It does not mean gifts, God working through us, or any thing other than one application. That being to cover with oil or such.
In the NT we are covered by the Blood via the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, which is an anointing or our spirits.
The Holy Spirit is called oil in the Bible. Both in the OT and NT.
Here is every NT verse. You see only covering with oil for medical purposes and the Holy Spirit at his Baptism. Nothing else.

What I find the most troubling about these movements is the constant seeking and preoccupation on signs and wonders, demon possession, and "the devil made me do it mindset". This neglects the more important part of building the character of christians. Instead of teaching sound doctrine we only get false prophecies, devisiveness, and a constant seeking of "spiritual highs".

Agree.
And, like all addictions to highs, when you get immune to one level you seek a higher one.

I might be wrong but it seems they take all the bible prophecys,
and "personnalize" them to each person.
totaly out of context.
