Quote:Submission to the Authorities

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

God is not a God of chaos or anarchy. So governments are established by God in his Plan to give form and structure to peoples.

Quote:2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

Governments are responsible and hold the power of laws and so on needed for a country and its people to exist in an organized manner.

Quote:3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.

Those who do right are under not threat from the government.

Quote:Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.

A good government holds good citizens as valuable assets.

Quote:4For he is God's servant to do you good.

A leader serves at God's whim. He is responsible for dispensing justice.

Quote:But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

God authorizes and requires him to punish those who do evil.

Quote:5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

Without government there is anarchy and evil rules. To not submit makes one responsible for the resulting evil.

Quote:6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

Government cannot function without citizens funding and submitting to them.

There have been many times in history where an evil government was in place. But even under them there was less evil than when there was no government.

When a government ceases to function as God's servant and commits evil to those who do right God will replace them unless the citizens are reaping from their government what they have sown as a nation.

Good citizens are given good government. Corrupt citizens are given corrupt governments.

Under corrupt governments justice often does not exist and the good are punished unjustly.

God will guide the good living under corrupt governments. He will replace those governments according to his Plan and will.

Those who are unjustly harmed by a corrupt government will be repaid in greater measure in eternity than the measure of their unjust suffering.
